Pros

Great work life balance. People I worked with were true team players and a pleasure to work with. New C Suite company hired is pretty top notch. They are handling the changes with pandemic really well, they’ve done a great job with PR and communication. VSP also made valuable acquisitions of complementary businesses like vision works which helps them get a play in Retail. Benefits were decent with a 5% 401K match.

Cons

Company culture needs an overhaul. Vsp makes a lot of bad investments. VPs get attached to ideas and spin and stage information to C Suite which glorifies bad projects that continues to cost money because no one wants to step up and take accountability. And as junior people if you attempt to be bold and flag these projects you will kill all your chances of promotion. Play along thinking is rampant. Most VPs focus spend money to be seen doing things versus using critically evaluating long term profitability potential. VSP’s major competitors are focused on eliminating independent optometry which is VSP’s core business and VSP seems to be buying up more independent optometry which seemed counterproductive since healthcare as we know will dramatically shift in these next 5-10 years. Basically if you want work here, be prepared to be moving backwards.

Pros

Collaborative culture, great work life balance, big efforts for diversity and inclusion. Decent compensation + benefits package. Adjusting to remote workforce well.

Cons

Base pay a little lower than market (sacramento). Tech stack (for developers) is pretty solidified/not too much room for implementing a solution outside of company’s favorite flavor of language/framework.
