Pros

Excellent benefits & vacation time; good location & easy commute.

Cons

Vanguard literally made up a reason to lay off/fire me and 50+ others. After 2 months in my new job (still same department) I got a call to go see HR and was terminated on the spot for "hanging up the phone" on clients. #1, I never did that & #2, the phones weren't even a primary responsibility of my new job role. Vanguard DOES lay off, don't be fooled, they just don't call it that to maintain the "no lay off" facade. The HR representative disgusted me. I had no opportunity to fight back, but then again why would I want to work there knowing this is a common practice? I was treated with absolutely no respect. Turned in my badge on the spot & got escorted to my car like some sort of criminal. They didn't even ship me all my belongings from my desk. After almost 3 years of doing anything they asked, this is how I was repaid. TRUST ME. Stay away, you're better than this and better off somewhere else. It actually was a blessing in disguise because if I stayed I would have ended up a miserable robot in a mundane job for the next 40 years. Good riddance. Bottom line: Good for clients, bad for employees.

Its all an illusion...

Pros

The physical location is very nice. Decent cafe & staff, nice gym. The CEO is very approachable when you see him around campus.

Cons

The pay is absolutely just horrible and mgmt tries to make you believe that its the best in the business! Promotions/raises/merit bonuses are based on how well you play in the sand box not your skills. Its all about going out to lunch with "the team" and whether or not you participate in somebody's baby shower/going away/etc. party. No matter how hard you work, unless you go over the top to chirp and chatter with "the team", then you are seen as an outcast or "mean" as I was once called and not rated fairly. Lots of youngsters that have not yet developed a real sense of work ethic work on campus. Some of them are very unprofessional, dress like tramps and beach bums. There is also a sense of entitlement among those that are above a "F" level. Every message has to be delivered in a specific way or your tone could be "misunderstood." Diversity is weak. All the right words are said but the actions are contrary.

Pros

You won't beat their benefit package, and they always seem to be hiring (more on that later) so it's good for starting/ending a career

Cons

-Management doesn't give a rat's ass whether you're talented, they care whether or not you're willing to drink the Kool-aid and be a cheerleader for the brand -Your entire 'career' there depends on 1) getting a popular team leader/manager, and 2) getting said team leader/manager to like you; your metrics aren't worth the paper they're printed on (after they yell at you for using the paper) when it comes to raises/promotions/rewards/ect. -Some departments feel more like a play pen than a business--we spend more time doing salsa contests than doing our jobs -The implied threats that come with their campaigns for their chosen causes are downright offensive--they make it clear that they're keeping track of who's throwing in on their campaigns and who isn't Basically, this is the kind of place that is something of a revolving door....they're always hiring because most people invariably catch on that they're spinning their wheels here after more than a year or so, or just simply refuse to drink the Kool-aid and get drummed out (or made to understand that there's no future there so they leave on their own). Ultimately, Vanguard has to decide whether or not it cares enough to be a great company again, and if it does, it's going to have to change a lot of things from the bottom up.
