Great place to grow; need to focus on leadership and DEI

Pros

Growing company, smart and passionate co-workers, shared mission

Cons

As a healthcare company, we should be at the forefront of combating health inequities. However, VillageMD's approach to diversity, equity and inclusion is basically "out of sight, out of mind". Efforts around DEI appear mostly performative and opportunistic, sometimes verging on exploitative. We can't just continue having listening circles to talk about racial inequality, we have to translate the talk into action. It's clear that social justice is undervalued and misunderstood by VMD leadership, and they do not appear willing to educate themselves or their staff in a meaningful way.

Pros

Benefits are good. Some really nice talented people have worked and currently work there.

Cons

High stress and mind games are sadly at the forefront. Senior vice presidents and managers seem ill fitted for their roles. It’s obvious to most they were early in the company and are not qualified for the positions they currently hold. They are the main reason for such high attrition and negative culture that has been formed under their watch. Toxic culture lives here so be warned before considering a technology position. Sad to see how much changed since Walgreens became the major stakeholder.

Trying to do too much, too fast

Pros

The mission and underlying values of the company are spot-on and exactly what is needed in healthcare.

Cons

The organization is growing rapidly - which is great - but it comes at the cost of performance because the foundational processes and skills needed to succeed are sorely lacking. The company is trying to do too many things all at once and are not becoming proficient at critical items before moving on to the next issue. Leadership changes priorities on a monthly basis which makes "steering the boat" a very difficult thing to do when the rest of the crew is moving in a different direction. The company is in dire need of firming up the foundational aspects of the work we do and build from there - rather than the alternative of starting top-down.
