Pros

Once a great company and there are still some amazing people that work there from that time. The corporate building is nice...

Cons

I was "let go" last year for a BS reason to make the bottom line look a little better. One day without warning I was asked to meet my manager in a conference room, and was greeted by an HR rep and a security guard...was told I could "keep my health benefits till 11:59 PM that night" then escorted out of the building. Don't understand how I deserved that since I was never given a written or verbal warning that my performance was poor. In fact, only a month earlier I received nothing but great performance marks on my mid-year performance assessment.... Since then I've discovered that this may have been the best thing for me. I quickly found a job making more money and for a company in the nuclear industry that actually respects their employees. I'm constantly finding myself working "casual OT" now...not because it's a BS company mandate, but because the work is fulfilling and I get lost in it. It still seems weird to work in a non-hostile atmosphere where the employees are actually happy to be there. Trust me though I'll get used to it! Yes, the work is hard, but it's worth it when you believe in the company. It does make me sad to think back on the memories of how fantastic Westinghouse once was as a company. Danny has run the company into the dirt and it's only getting worse. I hope once he's done sucking it dry and dumps it, some real leadership will take over and return Westinghouse to what it once was.

Pros

New-ish office building with a good cafeteria.Competitive pay and benefits. People are, in general, nice enough to work with.

Cons

Westinghouse is a dysfunctional and demoralizing place to work. On a good day, I can put on my headphones, get some real work done, and almost (almost) ignore the stench around me. Yet I still go home stressed out and disgusted. Those are the good days. There are very few good days. The weight of horribly broken processes and worthless procedures is a millstone around the neck of anyone that wants to do the right thing and get work done they can be proud of. Project managers (manglers?) seem to out-number engineers.

Pros

The paycheck is consistent every 2 weeks.

Cons

This place thrives on deception and lies. If you tell the truth, you are a troublemaker. WEC has downsized so many times, that only the "yes" men/women are kept. They have tried to infuse new blood but retention is near impossible. They pay well to get you in the door but then shaft employees on raises. They now use the GE mentality of eliminating the lower performing employees (there is no "they all are great;" WEC insists a gradient; thus, someone must suffer). Management cannot be challenged on a poor review (like asking someone else to look at the review). They nickel and dime departments right down to tightening the purse strings on stationary supplies. Meanwhile, Toshiba siphons off WEC's profits to buy up Toshiba's losses. The new builds are bound to fail as they are mismanaged and run by incompetent management staff. They will look the other way when they are told that a design will not work and would rather deal with design issues or schedule later rather than get in front of the problem before it becomes overwhelming. I'm not sure whether the China plants will ever get online.
