Pros

Westinghouse is a company world renowned for recruiting and developing smart, energetic, innovative and hard working people. From its earliest days, the company has had a reputation for taking care of its people. Benefits, opportunity, development, accomplishment... All are words often associated with a career under the Big Blue W.

Cons

Westinghouse Nuclear is all that's left of what was once an empire of industry. No longer. Aside from poor business practices that led to the dismantling of George's creation in the 80's-90's, the worst thing that ever happened to WEC was being purchased by Toshiba. Operating under the shadow of a publicly traded and largely failing parent company, Westinghouse has been gutted, squeezed, torn and pushed to its breaking point. When I started with WEC, I was amazed at the culture. It was the first place I'd worked where everyone seemed happy. The nuclear renaissance had just begun, the new and opulent Cranberry HQ was opening and the future looked great. Then came the quake & the wave, plummeting natural gas prices and unstable world markets. Toshiba began experiencing corporate losses, and the squeeze at Westinghouse was on. First came the offer of voluntary separation packages then the news of involuntary separation. Layoffs have been the topic du jour for the last four years. What once was a jubilant atmosphere has become one of uncertainty, frustration and even anger. I'm on my way out the door now, and cannot wait to find myself in a company with more stability and a better corporate environment.

Pros

Talented and experience engineering staff that still works well together despite being dehumanized by Westinghouse management since about 2012 when the new "tough love" regime started. Good option for the unemployed, easy place to get into. They need to replace all the people who are quitting to apply their abilities elsewhere. Everyone with marketable talent is leaving unless they are close to retirement or have to stay in the area because of spouse and family. Free taxi cab ride home for those that got laid off without notice. Nice building for spending your nights and weekends. Slip and fall trainer machine, so you can learn to walk a second time.

Cons

The company does not value their employees at all. Every perk and possible pro to working here has been removed in the past 5 years. 40 hours pay, 50 hours worked. No appreciation for the engineers, They are just interchangeable resources and you will be called a resource. Underhanded tactics to downsize by firing without paying severance. If you're not in the cliques and don't say yes to everything, your manager will cook up an indictment about how you've committed some petty offenses and you'll be put on Performance Improvement Plan to be laid off in the next round. Not much engaging work to be found there now. Just a lot of paperwork to tie up loose ends on the new plants, endless training on procedures, and more safety trainings. You will be taught even how to walk.

Pros

There are no measurable "Pros" unless you enjoy working in a House of Horrors populated by 30-something punks who have never worked in the real world a day in their lives and are hiding out in corners and dark shadows waiting to pounce on any innocent passerby and try to build their career on the Professional Carcass of their Victims.

Cons

This company and its previous management has Lied to and Stolen the hopes, dreams and money of everyone involved in the Nuclear Industry. They aligned themselves with companies that had no experience in Construction and Architect Engineering - let alone Nuclear construction and Nuclear Architect Engineering. There is more that ample evidence that their original constructor actually had No Intention whatsoever of building the American AP1000's - and were simply positioning themselves to create a false inflation of their value so that they could sell the company at this inflated value and gild the golden parachutes of their management. There is evidence that Westinghouse management was aware of these conditions. One of their managers got paid a $19 Millon Dollar bonus for engaging in this charade. Environmentally - the company is like a Scene from The Burning of Atlanta, or the Fight Scene in "Anchorman". Lots of random career-violence, screaming, shadows darting over the landscape, flashes of what looks like fire or Medieval Weapons........and sheer terror. The company is a cesspool of the Worst People in Industry.........it's a harbinger of Doom for anyone that engages with it.
