White & Case reviews

I hate to say racism but it is what is. especially the human resource folk maybe except one person in that dept. they spy on you for no reason,they even watch when you go to lunch and when you return.

Think very carefully about your professional goals and what you want in a job before you take this position. Legal assistants at White & Case are assistants, plain and simple, and are expected to be available whenever the lawyers need anything, at any time they are working. Working 13 hour days on weekdays and weekend work is not uncommon. A great deal of the work is very dull, and often you will be asked to stay in the office late in case the attorneys need anything - which means just sitting around, waiting for work that may or may not come. This overtime work is paid - but this isn't a 9-5 job by any means. Benefits are not great - the healthcare offered is very expensive and there are no commuter benefits besides pre-tax offerings. The environment is one that does not value work-life balance. Legal assistants brag to each other about how much they have worked, and it is not considered acceptable to have outside commitments besides White & Case. If you want to go to law school, this may be a useful position - but if you are interested in other paths, steer clear. Many legal assistants go on to entry-level positions in other industries after finishing a year or two at White & Case. There is no upward trajectory for legal assistants unless they go to law school.
