This place is so far behind the times not just technically but culturally and burdened by having so few new faces that can break through, be accepted and thrive. The most ordinary ideas or methods used today can receive the most vehemous opposition from the long term staff that can at time resemble a mafia. People who are top performers elsewhere get chewed up by a culture that is so backwards and burdened with constant reflection on past mistakes. Long time staff view talented newcomers as threats to be eliminated even to the point of lying about them repeatedly till they leave or are gone. Membership slides unabated. Operations loses money as only investment income keeps it profitable. HR consultants are "planted" throughout to observe and report up and training is used to gather info to be used against people. The latest attempt to modernize technology is four or more years old and years away from completion with no end in sight. 40 percent of the book of business is universal life sold in the 1980s. They are a business time bomb about to implode as they likely will all lapse or be redeemed at once. Everything is about protecting the surplus while cutting costs and closing camps and protecting the culture. Even though it is a nonprofit, public filings show execs near the top floor isolated with million dollar salaries.
