Pros

Innovative office space and friendly colleagues

Cons

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! One of the worst managed accounting/finance groups with almost 100% turnover rate in the last year. They will lie to you and do absolutely nothing to retain their employees. All they care about is how the company is performing without taking into account the employees that fuel it. They will pounce on every opportunity to take advantage of you until the day you give them your notice. Know your worth and stay away from this company!

Pros

When I first started at Absorb, they were doing everything right! HR completely transformed the culture into an inclusive environment that fostered collaboration and growth and promoted work-life balance. I was truly amazed by Mike's leadership, particularly throughout the pandemic. The company allowed the flexibility of working from home, provided great benefits, and ensured their employees were set up with every resource they needed to avoid burnout and stay happy and healthy. Since the company was acquired and new leadership took over, the company culture has taken a nose-dive and turnover rates are crazy high. Some current pros are that they still offer flexibility to work from home, have an incredible state-of-the-art office, and good benefits.

Cons

Unfortunately, there were a lot of changes once the company was acquired and new leadership took over, which left a very toxic work environment. Previous autonomy in roles was replaced with micro-managing, they LOWERED PAY in some roles (that were already well-below industry standards), there is now extremely high turnover so it's hard to build relationships, and anytime leadership is confronted about these issues, it seems like they always have a canned response ready that is completely disingenuous. At Absorb, it feels like you are just another number and if you are not in the top elite group of employees, you feel completely disposable. It makes people not want to work towards moving the company forward if they're never recognized or appreciated. There is a complete disconnect between upper management and lower level staff and no transparency in the organization. You see the same old song and dance when other companies are acquired and Absorb is no different.

Pros

Peers were amazing for the most part

Cons

An article was recently published about record growth at Absorb, what wasn't published was how employees suffered to make that happen: 1. At the beginning of the pandemic, Absorb laid off employees from almost every department, as the demand for an LMS went up, those still employed quickly became overworked due to the cuts, which I'm sure most wouldn't have minded, if there had been any appreciation from leadership. 2. Also during the pandemic, Absorb chose to change the 35 hour work week to a 40 hour work week. They then informed us that our wages and hours would be reduced. For teams reduced by 10%, they were now working 36 hours a week for 10% less pay. An extra hour a week for 10% less during a mentally and financially exhausting global pandemic. 3. Absorb also completely stopped contributing to employee RRSP until the end of 2020. 4. They also decided to "revamp the bonus structure". Bonuses were originally given in December, because of the restructure, the bonus was delayed until February 2021. This means that employees did not get a bonus in all of 2020. This is a company that shows zero empathy and appreciation from a disgustingly selfish Senior Leadership team. The way that the pandemic was handled, in a year of record growth for this company, is absolutely unbelievable. The employees deserve better.
