Good for breaking into Triangle tech scene, but not much else

Pros

* Good stepping stone into the local tech scene if you're coming from another industry * Coworkers were some of the best people I've ever worked with: bright, helpful, and positive. * Frequent companywide meetings let you see what leadership's current focus is and why * The company has a large and rapidly-growing customer base

Cons

* Compensation for certain teams is low for the market, and there's no formal compensation review process, meaning you'll go years without a raise * Teams that fell under the same umbrella had conflicting goals, and teams not directly responsible for revenue are seen only as a cost center. Sharing leadership also means that the revenue-generating teams get more support and resources. * No real buy-in into core values and company culture; ping-pong and beer do not a company culture make. * Poor communication between departments puts certain teams in a tight spot when product decisions are made and implemented with limited notice.

Amongst the worst employers I've had

Pros

* Decent medical, vision and dental coverage.

Cons

* Emotionally abusive executives and managers. * Sub-par pay * Constant timeline and chaos stress * Being told to leave if we didn't like the way something was done. * No growth opportunities. * Micromanagement by engineering leads and others. * Deceptive 'motivation' practices

Pros

* Opportunities for self-directed growth * Small company means you get to see a lot of what's going on with managers/leadership * Great co-workers, friendly, and willing to pitch in/help * Industry (marketing) gets you useful exposure and you'll learn a lot that can be useful to you elsewhere

Cons

* Not all team members are valued equally * Questioning management will get you labeled as a trouble-maker * HR-related questions/concerns are not taken seriously/brushed aside * Management is uninterested in maintaining talent and unconcerned with high turnover rate.
