Pros

If you are competent at what you do and show initiative you will be given all of the responsibility you can manage. Complacency is not rewarded, but if you continually grow you will likely be rewarded. Communication not only within your department but across the entire company is key to your success. Hiring from within happens a lot and is encouraged by management.

Cons

Hiring from within potentially occurs a little more than it should. I feel the company needs to hire more from outside the company and outside the Butte County area. They need to ensure that they are bringing in fresh perspectives and industry experience. There is a tendency for management to act based on perceptions instead of facts. This is not uncommon in business. Just be aware of it and ensure that the perceptions match the facts as much as possible. Remember that other's perceptions are their reality.

Pros are great. Being proactive and taking initiative is key! Its easy to get looked over when you are a wallflower, even if you are a beautiful one! As far as cons. I can't disagree. Often we take perceptions to be reality and act on those realities. We try and practice discipline and constraint, but emotions often run high. Its something we can continue to improve on and I appreciate you calling it out.

Pros

I applied here over 5 years ago because I needed a job and heard it was a fun place to work. In my 5 years here I have had 5 different positions and each one has challenged me and taught me more than I would have ever learned if I had went back to school like I originally planned. Do not apply here if you just want a job. Build.com rewards people who invest in themselves and turn their jobs into careers. In my previous employment I always hit a wall at around the 2 year mark and ended up leaving for a new opportunity. Things change so fast around here that I am well past 2 years and still feel just as challenged as I did 5 years ago. I have worked in different departments but nothing compares to the energy of our Sales Center and I keep finding my way back here.

Cons

While they do invest in their employees they will not hold your hand. You will be responsible for your own success and if you fail be prepared to take responsibility. Not a true con but the company is growing so fast and there are so many opportunities that it can be overwhelming to know which path to take. The company has made strides in this area but be prepared for there not to be a clear career path and to do the leg work yourself to find your own. People will push you hard. They will question you on almost everything so if you bring an idea with no supporting data or a plan they will not respond positively. If you are smart you will only do this once and it will make you better at your job.

Pros

Build has given me the leadership and support to grow from an intern out of college into a leadership role with fair compensation along the way. If you work hard and take on more responsibility, you will be rewarded. You will have nothing handed to you unless you go out and get it for yourself. I love working with other driven individuals that constantly push each other to be better. The free food, ping pong, disc golf, and company events shows that leadership truly cares about the wellness of all employees.

Cons

Build has had growing pains over the last few years. There have been some missteps in processes and organization, but that is to be expected when adding hundreds of new employees.

Thank you for the shining review. What a great description of the company! We really like to see people grow their careers by their own personal drive and "be the change" they would like to see as you so eloquently put it.
