Pros

- You can hide and shirk responsibility easily. - Corporate culture/matrix org structure is strong, for those who prefer that style of organization. - Opportunities to suggest innovation and get involved in special interest groups. - Work/life balance is fine if you have the courage to stand up for yourself.

Cons

Cubic does not offer competitive salary for the Austin area. From an engineering perspective all the below will vary by program. - Lack of product mindset and product ownership skills on the leadership team result in unclear priorities and an expectation for engineering to implement features that are not yet defined. - Disdain for iterative product development techniques under Agile; the organization prefers to use augmented + outsourced headcount to scale instead. There is an attempt at using SAFe, an unsafe scaled agile framework. - Maintain a legacy system that has never been cleaned up in its 20+ year hot-potato history across many development teams and many different sets of leadership teams. - Tech debt & massive tech stack results in difficulty becoming efficient at anything.

Pros

Not many pros at Cubic

Cons

There is a reason that Cubic has a horrible reputation and it starts with the CEO who has created the most toxic I’ve ever witnessed. Cubic was recently acquired and the current environment there is extremely volatile. I have seen firsthand leadership at Cubic degrade, humiliate, and demoralize it’s employees. It is shocking and disgusting how it is allowed to continue. Being a former employee in HR, I can tell you how unbelievable it is to witness leadership publicly shaming employees on company wide video calls. Truly terrible. Employee moral is extremely low, and there are frequent layoffs and reorgs at Cubic. If you are a candidate considering Cubic, please please PLEASE reconsider and weigh your options.

Pros

The rank and file are some of the best, hardworking people I've ever worked with. Compensation seems on par or better for the area, good benefits.

Cons

The company tries to roll out initiatives and improve the culture, but there can be no improvement since the toxic culture comes from the very top. The CEO gives lip service to things like diversity, work/life balance and things like that, but his actions show that he actually doesn't care about any of it. He's created an atmosphere of fear and backstabbing and has surrounded himself with yes-men (and women) who are eager to do his bidding and will throw anyone under the bus to do it. Overpaid VPs do jobs that no one can explain. Meanwhile, the employees actually doing the work are either laid off or are leaving for greener pastures. Everyone is squeezed and forced to work long hours with no recognition or appreciation. In fact, the harder we work, the harder we're driven by management.
