It's an organizational failure

Pros

Imagine working where "Product" is determined by sales and project management that refuses to move dates or budget. Yes, it's chaos. Most of us engineers are all overworked, overstressed we are all looking for new roles in 2020 now.

Cons

The organization is so corrupt and has their blinders on so tightly that they refuse to look into how to actually run Product Management. Product is now a part of the sales organization which now means that we in engineering are building based on the whims of whatever insane idea a sales person come up with during bid phase with no regard as to the impact to strategy or cost to do it . This is 100% literally the opposite of any technology company best practice in existence. Coming from larger tech into this role I can absolutely say that I don't blame anyone for finding a new job in 2020.

Used to be a great company - until private equity bought it out.

Pros

Work/life balance, 9/80 work schedule, unlimited FTO (dependent on your manager).

Cons

Bought out by private equity companies that are staffed by inept MBAs that replaced all of the original management with their cronies. The company is dysfunctional - not enough staff to meet contract requirements and they're still conducting RiFs every few months. Four years ago they were cutting fat, two years ago they were cutting meat, and now they're cutting bone. Pretty soon the company will cease to function entirely. When they conduct layoffs, they go out of their way to keep it a secret, even lying to your face, right up until they call you into an unscheduled meeting and recite a script about "restructuring and apologies" etc. They are cold-hearted killers.

Can morale go any lower?

Pros

It is just a paycheck.

Cons

Silos, compounded with Agile, compounded with too many people on the brink of departure. Since Veritas took the company private they want people to operate as if they are working for a startup, however there is ZERO long term reward for that level of effort. Rank and file do not have access to stock in either ESPP, Options, nor grants. Salaried folks have ZERO incentive to put in long hours for the same flat pay, and compensation is NOT keeping pace with the marketplace. Real inflation as seen at the grocery store is close to 10% to 12% while very few people got better than 4% raises, and also huge increases in "benefits" out of pocket costs.
