Pros

Debt free company and benefits.

Cons

Payroll reductions have added stress to the daily routine, managers are not “managing,” rather than doing heavy tasks to get operational and merchandising tasks finished. The company used to be focued on your family/life balance, and and recently made the decision to stay open on thanksgiving, something they long said they wouldn’t do. They added to Sunday hours, and are open 2 hours past a normal Sunday closing time and customers are not coming in. The current CEO doesn’t share the same values as the previous and is concentrated on the numbers. A lot of turnover at the corporate level, and well as in the field makes it difficult to have some sort of consistency within the stores. They make poor decisions during our peak business time, and have a wonky POS system, that is always going down during the busiest of times. The focus on values and culture has changed to a focus of speed and tempo (aka you do more with less). I find It tough to stay positive and to promote positivity when the reality is the job is tough, and getting worse as time goes on.

Pros

They pay well and they SAY they support work life balance

Cons

Terrible communicators, salaried managers are treated terribly disrespected by district and regional teams. Don’t think about going to HR nothing will come of it.. the DM’s and RM’s are bullies and savages. The culture is the worst I have ever seen. I cannot wait to get out and wait till they drop the bomb about the holidays lol. Salaried managers work so many hours the salaries are diluted.

Pros

Management schedule was consistent with rotating weekends off and fair distribution of opening and closing shifts. DSW also has very Good benefits and insurance as well.

Cons

Payroll was cut dramatically in the past two years which put a Vast amount more of workload on all employees. Additional tasks have been added to the workload with that decreased payroll. They also removed the employee discount on clearance items which was very disappointing because that’s where we had the best deals. If they could at least raise the discount on regular merchandise for us that would have been something to show that they actually cared (Customers get better discounts FYI). Another thing is turnover....I have never in my life seen such turnover in retail....Ever!! I’m not talking about just associates but management as well!!! In just over two years with the company my store has seen 5 different Store Managers come and go along with 3 Co-Managers, about 7 Assistant managers, and countless associates.
