Pros

Telecommuting was offered to some of the developers.

Cons

Positive change was constantly mentioned by senior leadership team but almost never any actions to follow through on performing change resulted. A common excuse made by the senior leadership team was change would occur when time became available to do so. However management routinely over promised on deadlines resulting in a lack of any time to implement change. Managers displayed no respect for their employees personal time and routinely insisted on working OT with no comp time for doing so. Common reasons employees worked OT was because of a lack of project management. Employees who worked hard almost always had the same career growth trajectory of those who did the bare minimum, which was no growth. Little to no training was offered nor was there much opportunity to broaden skillset without doing so on personal time. Compensation in terms of pay and benefits is poor relative to the industry.

Pros

There is an opportunity to learn about the software process and gain knowledge from some bright people. Senior management is transparent and approachable, and they appear to be making a genuine effort to improve the work environment and the quality of the software. There were fun company events 2-3 times a year, and I enjoyed working with most of the people there.

Cons

High turnover (2-3 people a month at times), low morale and stress due to customer dissatisfaction, numerous software bugs, low pay raises, and long hours for some people. I witnessed certain managers publicly berating their employees like children on a regular basis. This created an unhealthy work environment and accounted for some of the turnover.

Pros

The office is in a good location (Denver Tech Center), and has an excellent view. I looked forward to the bi-weekly "end of sprint" gatherings.

Cons

The snide and belittling comments started in my second week of employment, and continued throughout. Only one group of employees received relevant technical training, and I was not in that group. Because training was a required item for annual performance reviews, this necessitated taking classes on my own time, and paying for them myself. After completing the classes, I was never given an opportunity to use my new skills, so it was my time and my money wasted. When a major new project, requiring the use of new technology, came along, it would have been a great chance for my coworkers and I to learn new skills. However, we were not trusted with this opportunity. The project was outsourced. While solving a customer issue, my manager and I discussed how I should proceed. Instead of giving me the chance to actually do what we discussed, my manager immediately went away and implemented something completely different. This happened twice in one day. A coworker and I were both helping another employee with a problem. When our manager found out, it was called “anarchy”. I have several more examples, but everything boils down to the same thing – complete lack of respect for employees.
