Pros

I love the fast-paced challenging environment. If you work hard and remain consistent in your efforts you will be promoted. ESI offers opportunities to employees with experience and having a degree is not required to work your way up. I like that they prefer to promote from within and value practical job experience within the company. The environment is one of fairness and equal opportunity and all of the supervisors and managers that I have worked with have been very approachable and quick to help when a problem arises.

Cons

It is difficult for some to get used to having your schedule micro-managed down to the minute as is the case with entry level positions. For positions which require the individual to field phone calls 8 hours a day, it can be very stressful and sometimes emotionally draining. You are the sounding board for people who are affected by corporate decisions which often affect their health, decisions that you may or may not agree with personally and are often subjected to wishing there was more that you could do to help.

ESI- Where favoritism gets you promoted!

Pros

The pros of Express Scripts has to be the big parking lot, and the weekly paycheck.

Cons

Mandated Overtime every Saturday, they expect us to give them 72 hours notice for a day off, and yet they give us 1 day notice to work forced Saturday's. Very un caring about people with families, short staffed departments. Promotions are awarded on a favortism basis, if your not buddies, or brown nose with supervisors or site managers you can count on not being promoted. People get advanced in the Inventory department by threatining to quit if they don't get promoted, and also being a female is a requirement for promotion in Inventory too. It also helps if you have the supervisor update your resume! Employees with more experience are being denied positions while employees from different depts who have no clue what goes on in there are being rewarded. Definitely not an E.O.E employer in Whitestown.

Pros

Large company. Opportunity to move around. Cafeteria is ok. Bathrooms are clean. Company is definitely doing well. A

Cons

Constant layoffs. No security. Very flat organization. Low level managers with 40+ people reporting directly to them. Feel of doom and gloom permeate the cubes and hallways. People in New Jersey feel it's only a matter of time before the location no longer exists, or exists as a fraction of what it is today.

Pros

My coworkers are the best thing about that job. I love seeing my friends everyday and they are wonderful, friendly people who make the time more bearable.

Cons

The company is so big don't expect to be noticed by management unless someone doesn't like you, then you will always find yourself in a predicament. My manager for 2 years was on my tail so much I got FMLA for stress because of her. When she finally was promoted and I got a new supervisor I was so used to the old way of things I would sneak and hide if I saw her coming while I was on break. I assume it was PTSD from when I was under the dragon lady. What was more unfortunate I think was the fact that there is no check and balance system. When I raised my concerns with HR that she was setting me up to get fired which she was, their response was to tell her what I said and I heard them tell her "You handle it." Needless to say she was not pleased with me after that. The only way I kept my job for the following year while I was still under her was FMLA, remaining stone faced, never spoke to ANYONE and just play dead most of the time. Thinking now how she treated me because I was intelligent and she was threatened by me; it makes me sad and I honestly want to cry about it because I was a great employee and no one above her would check her behavior and now she is upper management.

Express Scripts Rewards Mediocraty

Pros

Great PTO, good benefits, some flexible scheduling such as work at home as long as your manager gets behind work at home.

Cons

There is almost no opportunity for advancement unless you know the right people and that isn't saying much. Rewards go to those who follow scripting but don't think much. Just saw someone get "circle of excellence" who regularly screws up and can barely compose a sentence. It makes it difficult to give your all to a company that rewards you with average reviews when you are a work horse and try hard to give the very best customer service. . Its fine if you don't expect to much but the stress level for a front line job is terrible. I make about $3 more an hour than I did 8'years ago. The only reason I stay is I'm tired of the job hunt and getting ready to retire. Also I love my coworkers. Since the merger it's gotten worse and I think it's safe to say there is a fair share of bitterness from former Medco employees. I don't know how long I'm going to be able to keep it up.

Pros

Excellent Benefits, Leadership at the top was excellent

Cons

Poor Leadership and Training in the position I was in. New manager had no clue about the industry. Before accepting a position with them keep in mind that you will no longer be able to work in the industry for at least one year due to their non-compete agreement. I have 18 years of experience in the industry and now have been handcuffed for 12 months.

Pros

Great people, good manager for my department, option to work from home.

Cons

Since the merger the work is non stop I am doing the job of 4 people! Teammates are taking anti anxiety meds just to log on in the morning.. stress levels are extremely high. Tat time is nearlt impodsible due to the amount of work!! We are considered numbers,no longer people. The ESI way is robotic and non personalable. From calls to emails everything is becoming scripted, although there isnt a script! Upper managmenr has tied the hands iof the dept manger. Employees with long term "Medco tenure" are quitting left and right. ESI needs to re-evaulate keep the some of the Medco core values, they were working!! Life became miserable after the merger.

Very Stressful and Hostile Environment

Pros

- They are closed on all major holidays and you are compensated for them. - There is a lot of vacation/paid time offered to employees (around 20 or so days a year). - Great benefits. - Mostly friendly coworkers. - The cafeteria has good food, albiet a little pricy. - Website for employees has a lot of great features and is easy to navigate. - On-site credit union is a great idea. - The facility is state-of-the-art and very well-maintained. - The goals set by the company for employees tend to be very attainable.

Cons

- Constant changes made to Standard Operating Procedures make it impossible to keep up with ever-shifting rules, resulting in "counseling" from a superior (verbal warning, etc.) - Employees are told multiple times a week that "mandatory overtime" is required on Saturday (the normal days are Monday-Friday) and then told it isn't required the next day and vice versa. This makes it very hard to keep a good balance of home life. - Since being named the 2nd worst company to work for by the Wall Street Journal, the entire company has been scrambling to fix their relationship with their employees. This means asking on what they improve, online surveys, etc. That makes sense. However, as far as day-to-day things, there have been no changes. In the article, people had complained about being overworked, and the week the employees were asked for suggestions on improving the company, they were made to work that Saturday. - Anytime these Mandatory days are ordered, if an employee voices any concern, they're to to put "the patient first". This essentially is telling them to put the patient's needs above their own and their family's need. - They turn employees against each other (inadvertently) by having them report what was not done in their section by the other shift. Then that shift is told what mistakes they made. Since you know exactly who is working in your section/area on the other shift, this makes for some incredibly awkward situations between employees and months/years of this can cause some real friction. - Some members of management seem to hold grudges towards cetain employees and managers. This tension also creates awkward situations. - Employees/managers tend to lash out at one another when overworked (though some of this is voluntary overtime that the employee decided to work, as opposed to the company forcing them to). Some employees will work an extra 2-4 hours a day and, as a result, become irritable and leave other employees stressed out, and in turn angry, from dealing with tired coworkers.
