Pros

- Senior Leaders have taken feedback and are moving forward to make this a better place to work - Many benefits outside of the typical health benefits are provided - Countless opportunities to grow personally and professionally (training) - Room to grow and leaders willing to help you grow

Cons

Large organizations often times find challenge in all of the processes getting in the way of doing the actual work.

Pros

It's a job. The health benefits for pharmacists are very good. This is a union site. All other benefits are average. No real perks.

Cons

Pay is average. There is no personal growth; instead there is a marked personal decline. Many employees have resorted to taking antidepressants just to make it through the day. Training is provided for new duties of the job, but not to improve the employees' overall skills. Cut-throat environment; job loss is a constant threat. Anyone who complains to upper management gets a target on their back. Pharmacists are forced to review prescriptions so fast, it is not safe for the patients. Most leave due to fear of harming the patients and because they are afraid they will lose their license due to a mistake. Very stressful, and at the same time very boring and sedentary work. Many carpal tunnel syndrome and neuralgia problems from sitting in the same chair all day long, with two 15 minute breaks and 30 minutes for lunch. Lots of eye problems and headaches from computer screens. No job satisfaction. Not a good idea unless you can't find anyplace else to work.

Pros

Most people are generally friendly, at least a few people are willing to collaborate in each department. The majority of employees try to do a good job

Cons

Everything else. There is no work-life balance for anyone, even for direct supervisors. Management is expected to give the lip-service about patient care and quality of work but outside of meetings everyone knows there is too much red tape, miscommunication, and poor training to get the work done correctly. This company cares about its bottom line, never let them tell you different. The pay depends on who you worked for before the merger. From the Medco side, they have announced massive layoffs and closed entire facilities, then hired on the Express Scripts side for lower pay. With lower pay comes less experience, just another barrier to quality care for the patient. Raises and bonuses have been frozen for 3 years and I don't expect that to change. The employees have nothing to work towards or achieve other than their next paycheck and that is the only thing that keeps most of us there until we can find something else. They also REQUIRE you to use their services or the prescription plan won't cover the medications at the same rate. I've learned that this requirement isn't just for employees, its also for patients (including my own mother who works for company in contract to Express Scripts.) I have never, EVER felt so undervalued as an employee.

Great view of Corporate Life, no personal interaction

Pros

Compensation was great, as well as benefits. Plenty of PTO, though it's hard to take time off. All depends on what department you're in.

Cons

The company is so large you sometimes feel like just a number. Though you have plenty of PTO, it's hard to take time off. Everyone is busy and they offer no training. It's sink or swim from the get-go.

Pros

1.) A paycheck in exchange for work. 2.) Paid Time Off (after accumulating enough hours). 3.) Friendly colleagues and supervisors (for the most part). 4.) Occasional free food at the office.

Cons

1.) Unrealistic expectations of human (not robot) employees. We are given a very high number of prescriptions to fill every hour in mail, fax, and electronic queues. However, we only receive credit for new prescription "shells" that we create, and not scripts we have to forward to other departments (which accounts for about 1/4 of the work we actually do). 2.) Quantity over quality. Throughout my training and first 90 days of employment, "patient quality" (error-free prescriptions) was stressed as more important than meeting the numbers. I managed to stay error-free throughout my training and first 90 days. However, during my 90-day review, I was told I had 30 days to speed up or else the company and I would "separate." (I am not a slow typist at all; the standards just seem impossible to meet.) 3.) The B.S. Corporate Image. We have meetings once per month to emphasize "success stories" about Express Scripts. Euphemistic language is consistently used in the most ridiculous way, in order to convey a positive image about their own out-of-touch bureaucratic ideals. "Opportunities" is used when an employee is falling behind, as in "missed opportunities." (Ex: You only filled 200 scripts yesterday, so there's a perfect opportunity for you.) 4.) The pay. $11/hour. Nothing more to say about that.
