Pros

The pay but it is not worth the consequences. 45000 divided by 60 hours is not worth it. You will have no time off to send resumes or even take a regular shower since you are constantly working. It is impossible to find another job when there is no time to look.

Cons

They will work you to death and make you think you just can figure out how to get the work done in 40 hours that maybe you have not figured it out yet. You will work thru half of your weekends and at least 10 hours each week day no matter how long you have been there. Even after years of being there. You will be fired if you speak out and everyone acts like they are not being overworked so they do not become targeted. Once you let them know you are overworked you put yourself of the "radar" where they try to "help" you but the help is just greater scrutiny that adds to your work load. Their strategy is to take out anyone that does not lie about not being severely overworked. Then they refuse to give anyone a reference after they leave so forget about getting work as a teacher any where else. To work in public schools you will have to get a reference letter from your last principal. Their policy is to not give them to anyone since they are constantly loosing teachers it would take several employees just to keep up with giving reference letters. They will only verify the dates you worked there no matter how well you did so you will not qualify to work in any other school afterwards since you cannot get a reference letter. They will think you did something wrong and not hire you. All of the work is waiting for you when you come back from any vacation day. So when you come back you will work more than 60 per week and be so stressed you will not want a "vacation" again, This job has led to nothing since all other online teaching jobs are part time only or are just as bad like K12.

Absolute WORST place to work!

Pros

There is some flexibility with hours and schedule*. Some people are friendly and helpful. Professional development options are excellent. *You can make your own schedule, but be prepared to work 10-12 hour days if you want to stay afloat!

Cons

This is the absolute worst place to work. At first, everyone is very nice and helpful. Good luck after being there over 3 months; that's when the claws come out. They scam you into thinking you are taking a strictly virtual teaching job and then pull the switch-a-roo and want you to go into a local school and/or be accessible via webcam (this is new since they are fighting for survival with new competitors in most counties because of new legislation). ILs (principals) care very little about your needs/concerns and HR is a joke, as I am still waiting for a return call/e-mail regarding a question. I am VERY organized and still had trouble keeping up after working 10-12 hour days! There is no Spring Break and you don't get summers off. When you do get time off, you come back to a pile of grading (which must be cleared within 48 hours of being submitted by student) so you are constantly playing catch up. And don't get me started on the calls. They constantly push "customer service", but in reality don't practice what they preach with their teachers. All they care about is numbers and completions. Education does NOT follow a business model, people. If it did, teachers (upper level management in some corps.) would easily be making 6 figures... STAY AWAY FROM THIS TRAP!

Soul-less People ONLY!

Pros

Work from home. Overall good platform and curriculum in Educator and VSA record keeping. The number 1 reason I pursued this job, I could work out of state and had aging parents who needed my care. First five years were wonderful. Now, must live and work in state of FL only!

Cons

Hours, management, integrity, fear-based leadership, favoritism for those who drink the kool-aid, little down time, abuse good teachers by increasing workload and expectations, reward poor teachers who suck-up and look good on paper, physical looks, younger, and on surveys (meaningless). BTW, most of the 5 star reviews come from "kool-aid" staff members and corporate. If you have ever been to staff conference, bring a barf bag, it makes you sick to see WASPs who prance around because it is a vacation from their family. Once called the "Maternity Ward" everyone raising children wanted this job to stay at home. Discriminatory and arbitrary decision-making, ILs and Leads are NOT to be trusted. Actually, TRUST no one. Suffer PTSD from this job and if you polled former staff, they would admit the same. FEAR-BASED leadership and student diploma mill. Resubmit for mastery, resubmit to raise grade, seriously? Even college level courses; what college allows this? A disgrace to Education! DO NOT leave your tenured job! The last great perk is gone, working out of state! Mistreat employees, and as several have said, they can still sleep at night, soul-less!
