Pros

UHSI is a wonderful employer for what matters in nursing: Patient care is a priority, staffing is safe, education is supported and promoted, and the nursing leadership team is exceptional! The environment in which you work should be a family, and nothing is more apparent for all who work here than the fact that we are family through and through!! Been here 14 years and counting!

Cons

Miss the Fall Festivals although the system is extremely generous to their employees.

Doctors run the show....

Pros

Decent care for patients for the most part. On a surface level the culture of the hospital is friendly.

Cons

The doctors are totally allowed to run the show. It is often difficult to bring evidence based care into practice, just because a doctor wants to have things as they are...even if is makes no difference to what they do. Doctors are allowed to behave in an abusive and demeaning manner to other staff...especially if their practice brings in a good deal of money.

United Hospital System has a zero tolerance policy for abusive relationships. If this was occurring when you were working here, we would suggest using the chain of command policy to address the issue. In addition, United Hospital System has several clinical committees that staff participate in to provide feedback on evidence based medicine. Organization Needs Work

Nice co-workers, and large units.

Cons

I have been here for 2 years. As a nurse with 10 years of experience, I expected much more. The pay is very low. Tuition reimbursement for nurses is less than $2000 a year. Nurses are not encouraged to pursue or continue education. They will not be able to meet the new 2020 guidelines with only Diploma and ADN nurses. Managers are not supportive of their stuff, and do not ask for input. I know all health care systems have their down falls, but I worked for a much larger organization in the past and still regret leaving.
