GameStop provides a fast paced environment with many opportunities for recognition and advancement. Key contributors are quickly identified and provided with leadership, tools, and training that is necessary to achieve individual and company goals. GameStop is a rapidly growing company with a strong international presence, which provides opportunities to partner with other individuals in different cultures and environments.

Cons

GameStop is a highly functional organization and is impacted by the classic failings of this type of an organization. It is often challenging to achieve open communication and agreement or consensus on priorities between the various functional areas.

Pros

Games. The only reason people work there is because they can talk about games all day. And for the discount. You need to be able to talk gaming to be able to talk to the hardcore customers, they're the ones who spend all the money. The discount at both GameStop and Barnes and Noble is also a big plus. Plus the ability to "check out" games for testing purposes. The hours are pretty flexible, but you have to pay your dues before you get first pick. I liked the insider information too, it's a good way to impress your friends.

Cons

Customers. They don't listen, they ask the stupidest questions, and they completely disrespect any female working in the store. Can't tell you how many times I had a guy look at me and ask, "I need to talk to someone who knows about (insert item here)." Hello? But it evened out because the mothers and grandmothers always ask for advice female employees before male. Corporate. They add and subtract hours without reason. Seriously, just whenever they feel like it. You're also expected to sell the magazine/discount card, and if you don't keep numbers up they'll fire you. My managers were pretty good about giving hours out fairly, but there are some horror stories out there.
