Pros

Fun environment at times and an exciting industry Good pay and bonuses Never boring

Cons

- Extremely poor work/life balance. GameStop will need to be your 1st, 2nd and 3rd priority. - Company leadership does not understand the business in the field...this is a change from a previous leadership that 100% knew what they were doing and made great decisions that gave the field confidence. - Zero interest in true development of people. In my market and region, there have been MANY great people who have left because of absolutely TERRIBLE leadership that has taken over in the past year. - Integrity is poor among leaders at the market and regional level. Very little that is said can be trusted and the example that is set when it comes to being good managers of people is extremely poor. - Favoritism and double standards are an every day occurrence. - Turnover is extremely high company wide because you are discouraged from developing people with a positive attitude. You are expected to bring people down instead of empowering people to achieve more and build on successes. - Many knee-jerk reactions that make managers lives miserable, often as the result of poor decisions by the market and regional leaders. Created an incredibly low morale in the field. - You live and die by the weekly performance file which is very flawed. Successful districts are often punished for doing well in previous years. If you are a top performer you are expected to keep improving at the same rate year over year. No consideration is given if you have been in the Top 10% in a category for multiple years in a row, so when you are not increasing sales or trades at the same rate as districts that were poor performers in the prior year you are told you are not good enough...even if you are still a top performer overall. - Once a strength and now a huge weakness...the field opinions no longer matter AT ALL.

Pros

Lots of swag, free games etc. The ability to borrow games, and get an employee discount. Store Manager Conference is alot of fun, and exciting, especially if you like gaming.

Cons

Poor payroll. Long work hours. Little to no recognition. Constant communication from your District Manager, even on your vacation and days off. (Phone Calls and E-mail contact that require Immediate Response) You have to work 44 hour work weeks, and get paid only for 40. There are times when the company needs to save money on payroll, so they make the Managers of the stores work 50 hours, as a mandatory requirement. During the Holidays they force Managers to work 6 Day work weeks, and none of this "Overtime" is re-imbursed at a 1.5x rate. They just give you another day off in February, March, or April. They should be providing 1.5 days per normal overtime rates as monetary compensation or in some sort of Compensatory capacity.
