Pretty good for a retailer

Pros

Pay is fair for retail, medical insurance is available from day 1 for full time and part time people, and they are making changes to keep up with digital.

Cons

It's a retailer, so pay and benefits aren't as good as they would be at a non-retailer.

Pros

1) 15% discount on everything other than new systems. 2) Store is small and employees few, so everything is right there and you really get to know your coworkers. If you have awesome managers, it can be amazing. 3) Generally an easy job as a basic game advisor. 4) Check out games to test them before you buy. 5) Get to know more about games and other gamers. 6) When new stuff and price changes come in, you're usually the first to see them. 7) Very casual dress code.

Cons

Ugh, where do I start... 1) HUGE emphasis on selling things. It's prioritized over customer serive, which I think is just wrong. You are heavily pressured to sell as many pre-orders and PowerUp Pro cards as possible. It's uncomfortable trying to push people into buying these things, and it can be very stressful when nobody will do it, especially because Gamestop's expectations are unrealistic. You feel like your job is on the line, and in some cases, it is; some stores will have employees written up for poor sales numbers. If you're constantly feeling stressed about this or like you're not good enough, it can quickly kill your morale and make you hate your job. 2) Upper management where I worked was not empathetic, especially the district manager. Whenever my numbers happened to be low, they automatically assumed that it was because I weren't trying hard enough. I'm sorry, but sometimes, it's just impossible to get someone to buy a Pro card and reserve something when all they've come to buy is two $1 PS2 games. Customers without Pro cards that demand multiple transactions are nightmares. 3) It's retail. Some customers will treat you like dirt, even it you're the nicest person ever. They also seem to love messing up the game sections that you just spent forever alphabetizing. 4) Low pay and terrible hours. As a basic game advisor, your job is awfully easy, but you barely get enough hours to scrape by. However, as anything higher, you work way too hard for what you get paid and get far too many hours. 5) Tiny staff. It's good that you get to know each other, but if someone calls in sick, things can quickly turn disastrous.

Great at first, but went downhill...

Pros

Working around games and making sure people know what they are buying. Great place to make friends since most people share a hobby.

Cons

Incompetent leadership, high employee turnover, managers randomly moved, puts profits over customer service, very low pay, very few hours, management levels tend to contradict one another when making even minor decisions.
