Not The Company It Used To Be

Cheap cost of living in the Des Moines, IA area.

Cons

During my tenure at the organization, I have seen upper level management come and go. The last three CEOs have been paid huge salaries all the while they produce poor results. There seems to be no accountability and if you are related to senior executives, you can get away with just about anything. Communication is the worst I have seen during my years at GuideOne and morale is at an all time low. The senior management team now is the worst I have seen and that is saying a lot. This is a good old boys club and they do nothing to hide it.

GuideOne has been one of the best moves of my career. Before GuideOne, I had been stuck at a larger insurer with no voice. I wasn't able to make decisions or use my expertise without micromanagement or jumping through hoops. Now, I'm relied upon as the expert, given authority and support for decision making and I'm better able to help our customers. On top of all of that, the people who work at GuideOne are amazing and truly care about making a difference. GuideOne's culture is improving by leaps and bounds with new leadership and it is felt throughout the organization.

Pros

My direct manager is great, allows autonomy, good work hours with flexibility that allows a good home life balance.

Cons

A lot of management and no direction. Not a lot of communication from the top down. Does not promote within the company regardless of skillset or experience. Employees give the same constructive feedback year after year about working there and their dissatisfaction and no positive changes are made. Very behind on technology for employees and customers. Decisions are made without consulting individuals that would possess crucial knowledge.
