Pros

Their paychecks don't bounce. Notice most of these reviews are "less than one year." Typical because the company is a boring, slow paced place. After all it took them over 55 years to get this way.

Cons

Women run this place. If you're a man, you will not rise in the ranks. The company also has so many sacred cows. It's not an equal opportunity employer, they discriminate against everyone who is not an old white female. Unorganized, slow to adopt new technology. Slow, cumbersome and ancient IT systems. Like operating at an airline counter in the 1960's. They do not listen, they only command.

Pros

They talk really big about what a great Corporate culture but if you are in Operations they don't give a damn

Cons

I totally bought into the Corporate culture idea of Guild Mortgage, even though I had previously been let go in a Reduction in Force. I went back to work for them and for 2 1/2 years worked between 10 plus to 11 plus hour per day. Searching for some work/life balance I took a UW Liaison position with promises from my boss that if there was ever another Reduction in Force eliminating my position I could transition back to my prior Underwriter III position. Instead, they hired a new UW from Corporate to work for the SLC Ops Center and then 2 weeks later laid me off despite the promises that had been made. DON'T BELIEVE what they say about their Corporate culture, they use you, wring you dry and then discard you like you are nothing.

Pros

Corporate is a fairly collaborative environment, company is largely female-led, organization is growing. If you are one of Management's favorites you could potentially find yourself in a cush position.

Cons

Slow moving. Lack of decision-making at the leadership level. Top-level leadership doesn't want to hear bad news and will "shoot the messenger" - which has created an echo chamber of BS and self-kudos. Employee performance issues are rarely addressed, which has created an environment where good employees are dumped on and burn out. Most of the leaders have grown with Guild and worked there forever, which means there's a lack of outside perspective. Almost no upward mobility for employees. If you would like a promotional opportunity or meaningful pay increase prepare to go to battle. Leadership seems to only value what is "shiny and new" - so programs and processes are poorly and quickly revamped or thrown together in order to temporarily pacify Management. The long-term quality or viability of these programs or processes often is questionable at best.
