Pros

HR Block provides a lot of tools for you to obtain the necessary information to do your job. You can learn a lot from HR Block if you want to spend the time and energy to utilize the tools provided you. The employees return year after year. It is a pleasant place to work.

Cons

HR Block expects a lot of associates and managers alike; unfortunately the pay is not adequate for the amount of work you do.

Pros

You may meet some wonderful people and get experience with a wide variety of returns, but there is a lot of pressure-actually far too much stress to perform in a small window of time and to connect with the client and to convince them to return-to you-the following season.

Cons

The biggest downside to H&R Block is that you can never become a true professional. The business is simply too seasonal and the pay is far too low-----far far too low------to enable you to truly make a living.

Pros

Training lead by instructors, not just from a book or online. Plenty of review and practice material. If you really want to learn about taxes you can. My office had really experienced people who were happy to help with difficult questions. If you know what you are doing and can explain it customers will love you.

Cons

Possible for people to make it through the training without actually learning much. They will mess up and leave you holding the bag. Some places/people only care about commissions which makes for a terrible environment with people trying to 'steal' other customers. Terrible metrics that are mainly out of your control.
