Pros

Amazing people who do great work when they are not stifled by an indecisive leadership. Proud company with a history of creativity and caring for customers. Unfortunately, this has been lost by layers upon layers of management that work more to keep their jobs than care for their employees or fix issues that would take creative changes and courage.

Cons

No Vision. Executives make changes to appear to be righting the ship when really they are just trying to stay on long enough to cash in stock options and keep a bloated salary. Management levels below them walk gently in order to maintain political position and make it another tax season. Classic culture of indecision.

H&R Block and Sears are so similar.

Pros

Great training and had the chance to work with many great professionals.

Cons

Upper management is a train wreck. Many have been with the company a long time and think that demanding more time and more attention from every employee will fix the business. The company has been losing market share to competitors every year. Working for H&R Block demands a commitment of 7 days and 7 nights a week...12 - 14 hours most every day! And that's even in the summer and fall months. The company loses clients and then raises prices every year.

Pros

Excellent brand recognition, high ethical standards, superb educational system, great people to work with--almost 'family'. Clients are for the most part good folks to work with, again almost 'family'. Pay is commensurate with your productivity level.

Cons

Management consistently changes their focus each Tax Season. Home Office doesn't know and (I believe) doesn't care how their mandates affect the local tax preparers. I've head it said that preparing taxes isn't similar to most other service businesses and certainly not to retail trade. Yet the Home Office continues to attempt to apply retail marketing and office procedures to tax prep. Your strong points are laudable but your inattentiveness to local personnel is your downfall.
