Pros

Pay is fair and if you want more hours, the managers are usually more than happy to put you on the schedule.

Cons

What they don't tell you in the job description, or even during training, is that they rely heavily on telemarketing so pull people in. Every day you'll be given a list of phone numbers to call, and you need to get through them all, and once you get through them all, you get to do more. It gets really crowded sometimes (toward the end of tax season), and the people in the office become uncontrollable at that point. I was chastised for allowing too many people in, but at the same time, corporate doesn't want us to turn people away. I was also told off for "not smiling enough"...I was wearing a MASK. I wore a mask every day, yet somehow I wasn't smiling enough. How can anyone even tell? There was just an overall sense of absolute misery coming from every Tax Pro, and even the Manager. Everyone hated being there, and eventually that feeling rubbed off on me too.

Pros

The people I was working with were not the best, but not the worst either. I found that when I needed assistance management was there 75% of the time just not always when it was needed

Cons

There’s a lot of aspects about this job that I absolutely hated. Firstly, we were so incredibly understaffed that I found myself overwhelmed 80% of the time. Secondly, they did not pay me the rate I was promised they changed my pay randomly to minimum wage and told me the issue would be fixed and then it wasn’t so I ended up not being able to pay my bills because for 4 weeks in a row because I was underpaid. Thirdly, although they make you feel like you matter you don’t you’re just another number on the screen and they will treat you as such despite telling you otherwise. I’ve never had a worse experience working for a company than this one… for a company that does taxes you really should learn how to pay your employees correctly.

Pros

It can be flexible at times and it does have job security no matter how awful of an employee you are.

Cons

There’s a huge issue with the way the company handles HR issues especially if it involves a corporate level manager or higher. Several complaints buy multiple people can be made and nothing happens because the unethical practices just keeps happening. There’s managers that breed unethical practices and HR does nothing about it, at all. You have managers doing IRS required continuing education for the tax pros so they can have all their tax pros “ready to go” before others. Same thing with training, people are told to just mark it complete and they’ll get paid. Manager training is lacking completely, cheating on tests is encouraged and 6 hour training sessions are done in 2 hours. Managers help tax pros take level certification tests also (they really need to disallow you to be able to print competed tests). So basically you’ve got a lot tax pros out there with false credentials and no actual CE training. Employees who file fraudulent returns are rehired every season because “a butt in a chair for staffing coverage is more important”. No real recruiting is done for new tax pros at all. People working off the clock is a huge issue and honestly some managers expect and promote it. Which is insane that people are willing to work for free like their time means nothing.
