Pros

Love being able to help people with their individual, business, farm and other returns or tax related needs.

Cons

The price for returns is much too high. The pay is not as good as it once was. Not as many people are coming in as 15 years ago, when I first started. The company has made no strides to helping it's tax professionals earnings, yet the company has made great strides in their own interests (selling tax software at retail stores and online, offering online preparation sites, and offering tax assistance to those using either the software or online sites).

Pros

I've been with the company over 10 years and have always enjoyed working with my clients. The hours have been fairly flexible.

Cons

I usually don't give reviews, but this year seems the time. The company makes a big deal about not having pens on our desk and would prefer staplers put away. We aren't allowed a pen holder. We are supposed to have a 5X7 frame with our name and title on our desk that I feel is in the way. We are expected to take clients whenever they want to make an appointment, even if the office is closed. This may be convenient for the client, but would require anther employee to be in the office for safety. As with any retail establishment targets change from day to day...so do our schedules. Office hours change, making a day go from 8 hours to 10 hours. We are expected to walk up to strangers and ask about taxes...even if I have my kids with me.

Pros

It a great company to learn the tax laws, and the staff employed are very helpful and have lots of knowledge.

Cons

Even if you get certified to the highest tax pro position,(enrolled agent), after a few years you start to incur a wage reduction of 20% every year. Example 10.00 * .20 = 8.00 and the following year take that new wage of 8.00 and reduce it by another 20%. I was making 22.00 per hr in 2010 five years later and i have to beg for 7.25. HR Block don't care who you are or how much you know, unless you increase you client growth by 20% you will take a pay cut every year of 20% and you must complete at least 150 tax returns, good luck with that since most offices only have 700 clients and there are 10-20 tax pros in each office.
