Pros

Flexible with time off and work scheduling.

Cons

First year hires come in averaging $18-$25/hr. Pay is based on number of returns done. If you drop from the last year, your pay decreases depending on productivity and that can go to min. wage. Low rate of pay considering the job responsibilities and education you will have to complete for free.

Pros

Challenging work Exposure to various tax situations Mentoring

Cons

Low staffing causes poor work-life balance even with a typical seasonal tax preparer's in-season work schedule. Lack of support staff and high turnover rates cause inefficient productivity.
