Pros

Great product line ranging from carbon fiber to prepreg to part production for Boeing, Airbus, Spirit, Orbital ATK, Bell etc. New plant and existing plant growth (22+ plants globally) has been very good and there are some very knowledgeable good people there.

Cons

HEXCEL has had heavy growth thanks to Airbus and a good product But salaries are consistently lower than the industry regardless of the job and location around the world and there is no desire to rectify it. People are forced to work overtime whether hourly or salary as more work and projects are assigned to an already over burdened workforce. But HEXCEL has historically and repeatedly not wanted to hire more people when they are unsure of the European economy especially since this is a highly technical and specialized industry. HEXCEL implemented IT solutions 7-8 yrs to facilitate Office Communicator conference calls globally internally and externally to reduce travel costs and time. Unfortunately something was lost without the occasional face to face. - Maintaining relationships and building relationships which brings Trust - Accountability ensuring that the persons on the other side completely understand and will honor their commitments - Providing support and training and ensuring the support is compatible and understandable to the benefactor regardless of country and language - this means verifying the best people who really need the support and training are receiving it HEXCEL became a "matrix" management organization which means you can and will have a solid line chain of command 1 direction PLUS a dotted line chain of command that is just as important. This adds to the increased workload plus also makes it more difficult getting things organized, completed and understand ding which boss has priority!

Pros

Good benefits, decent work life balance, don't have to kill yourself working very hard. I got hired at a decent hourly wage because of previous Experiance.. It's union and it is very hard to get fired unless you have bad attendance. A few of the engineers are very nice people and don't treat you like a peaseant.

Cons

Strict attendance policy, for the most part they don't pay well at all. Very very senior employees average age of a production worker is about 50, and everyone who works their has for 20+ years. Part of Iam district 160 which is now a worthless union because in 03 workers went on strike due to the company adding a clause that said they could do health care take always mid contract. Everyone went on strike and it was a 90 something percent strike vote and the company hired replacements for about half the work force and hundreds lost their jobs from what I've heard. So now almost 10 years later every time health care costs go up the company takes something away. I have only been here for 2 years and they took away 5% of what the plan paid and now they told us this next year if you smoke you have to pay an extra 60 a month for insurance. Wage increases are .40 cents every six months and their is no more raises other than that do if you hire on at 11 bucks an hour it will take you about 10 years to get to the low pay cap of 19.50 an hour. Every employee I know here regardless of how long they have worked for the company says the same thing, "get out while you can". And "If the company was this way back in the good old days I would have left and not wasted my time. Nobody has retirements btw the company " plan" is an absolute joke. You basically put your money in a interest bearing account. Just like you can do with any other Ira or savings. Upper management is a bunch of jerks. Politics are extreme here if your in good with upper management you can get what you want, not by working hard. Everyone uses it as a stepping stone to Boeing And who wouldn't?

Pros

Easy to get noticed and acknowledged if you do good work. Tight knit community and people are generally supportive.

Cons

Lack of communication, clear sexism and ageism, lack of training, lack of leadership. I’ve never had any 1:1s or career development conversations with my boss, you’re just there as a body to do work. In fact, I only saw my boss a few times in person and he was never available to help me. That’s not what a manager is supposed to do. It’s uncomfortable to be a woman in that environment. The constant Union vs salaried drama and finger pointing is unnecessary and disgusting. Lastly, they will promote incompetent people only because they’ve been there for a long time while others do their work for them.
