Pros

No matter which team you work for, there will most likely be free food at least twice a week. You will gain a lot of weight working here especially because work life balance is awesome since the work is minimum and productivity of teams are low.

Cons

Company only values employees from a certain demography. There is a lot of favoritism in all teams. People are handed promotions outside of annual reviews and promotions are pre-determined without consideration to performance. There are quite a few org changes typically involving favorite employees without consideration to the projects at hand and their impacts. Management does not really care for employees. Most town halls are a waste of time as senior leadership team cannot even name their important projects. The work life balance is awesome because there are lot more people and less work. Most projects are managed poorly and no one has control over what is going on in any project. When projects do not succeed, all excess employees hired will be let go and the favorites will remain and the cycle starts. There is no true innovation happening at this place. Most reviews for IHG are positive because they are from front desk employees at hotels. Sales/Marketing/Technology teams who work at corporate do not have good benefits and have to go through heavy politics every day.

Hello Thanks for taking the time to feedback to us. I was sorry to read that you felt that promotions were handled unfairly at IHG. Our promotion and merit processes are designed to be awarded on performance. We also have a strict calibration process for them, where scores are cross-referenced by multiple reviewers, across various departments. This is in place to ensure impartiality and fairness – so I’m surprised that you found that this wasn’t the case in your experience. I’ll certainly pass this feedback on to our Compensation and Benefits team. Regards Chris The Employer Brand Team

Pros & Cons for IHG

Pros

Most depts at IHG have a flexible supportive work schedule. Summer hours offer a 1/2 day off each week by working 4 10 hour days. In good years, the bonus program is wonderful, in bad years it doesn't exist. The office space at Ravinia is very nice with a shuttle to Perimeter and Marta.

Cons

As a foreign owned company, it can be hard to get big decisions made to keep the company nimble. It is a very conservative company. New managers aren't trained to be good managers and incompetence is allowed to continue. It is tough to move among departments and up the ladder. Office politics and "clicks" can cause roadblocks in getting work done which is disappointing.
