Pros

None. This company is very bad.

Cons

Terrible company. You answer calls every 15 seconds for a wide range of industries (medical, insurance, law, education, pharmaceutical). You don’t have the ability to screen calls or focus on any one area of expertise. The client has a “clean desk” policy meaning you're not allowed to have anything open in your computer, including glossaries so you have to be an expert in everything, including highly technical or specific terminology in a wide range of fields. There is no support whatsoever besides a “contact agent” option where you can transfer the call if there is an issue but are warned if you transfer too many calls you can be fired. You have no manager, no team, and no one to help you. You have forced overtime because you're not allowed to log out of the phone system until the last second of your shift so if you get a call 1 minute before the end of your shift and it lasts for an hour, well too bad for you. Even worse, most employees are hired through the dreaded Kelly Services who still thinks we live in the 1950s and tells you you’ll need a doctor’s note for an absence. The real cherry on the cake though is when you find out they charge 240 for an hour of interpreting but pay you only 15, less than people make working at my local grocery store (no disrespect to them but they aren't answering 911 calls). Run away from this company.

Pros

You learn that you can Interpret * if you are fully bilingual, They offer training as well.

Cons

The pay is low and they demand a very high professional service, Calls are one after the other and just like a 12 seconds between calls, 1 Break for 15 min lunch 30 min and thats all the breaks you get working 7 1/2 hours. If you take more time off, it can lead to problems (they discount that lunch break from pay check)

Pros

Good coworkers, clean building, good hours

Cons

Low pay for the amount of work, quality assurance and trainers are not fluent in the language they are reviewing you on. They change their mind in the terminology they deem correct from one day to the next, no way to move up.

Pros

- Good Medical and Dental benefits - Work from home, no commute - Fixed schedule, no after-work responsibilities - paid time-off (but sometimes late paid] - option for additional hours

Cons

- Zero pay raise since start of employment - No pay-raise system (LLS keep giving false promises that it "may" rise in "near" future) - High stress calls and back-to-back calls. - No RRSP/pension plans for Canadian employees - Occasional late payment on the promised vacation pay, incentive pay and accrued time-off pay. - Lack of training and briefing to some of our clients (the users of our service) some of them don't even know how work with interpreters. - Focusing more on customer service than interpretation quality

Though these words are difficult to read, we will reflect upon them and use them as an opportunity to improve. We are always striving to be better for the employees who are LanguageLine’s core. After doing an extensive evaluation of our pay and benefits in comparison to other employers in our business, we find that our compensation and benefits, while not above average, are consistent with the industry.
