Pros

I lead an amazing team that have overcome crazy obstacles and refuse to be discouraged despite being in a negative chaotic environment

Cons

I have never seen such a misuse is power on the management level. Ever. This is not my first management job and I have encountered your average workplace issues, but this has been something on whole new level: To the point of being bizarre and almost comical. I have stayed due to my love and loyalty to my team, my customers and my love of crafting. Unfortunately my compensation is not adequate to support my family and my district manager has made it clear that the most I can hope for is .25 after 6 months. Go ahead and keep the quarter dude. Maybe reinvest it in a leadership seminar.

Pros

There are a lot of good things about working here. I worked on the floor and as a cashier, so I was moving around constantly. I am an artist so the 30% discount was really nice for my art supplies.

Cons

The managers would require employees to obtain 15+ emails from customers per 2 hour shift. This hindered us from fully utilizing our time to tidy up the store (do "go-backs") and also help customers get what they need quickly. I was often asked to stand by the door my whole shift and ask customers to trade their e-mail for a coupon ( which they could easily get on their phones.) a total waste of time that could have been used to help customers and so forth.

Pros

Live my coworkers...some of the most creative people I've ever known!

Cons

As a person in the framing department we are dealing with artwork worth anywhere from ten dollars to upwards of hundreds of dollars. Most of the frame shops in the stores have climate control issues. Shops are at the end of the AC system and get little to know air conditioning. No fans or air movers are allowed, and the humidity levels have been, roughly 50% or higher on a daily basis. Corporate framing doesn't seem to care about the potential damage to artwork, or framers trying not to drip sweat on artwork. Adhesives don't stick, laminates are activating on the rolls, and papers are curling, along with artwork stored in the shops for over a week. Not to mention the health issues associated with the high humidity environment. Unfortunately all the company (beyond the store mgr and AM) care about is the money. In the end world class is thrown out the window. If money is so important, we shouldn't have gone public. If the shares fall even a penny, we all have to now curtail spending. Well, framing takes supplies and those supplies can't be cut.
