Pros

It was an awesome experience to work with this company. They had a lot of great things in place to keep their team happy - stock options, meditation classes, food delivery, WFH stipend, etc. The pay was great - first time I've ever cleared 6 figures in any job in my life. Management was great! I don't remember a single negative experience and they really did care about their sales team.

Cons

The only downside is what's expected. It's a startup so you have to assume a lot of energy/effort into your work and some risk. There were a couple of rounds of layoffs (March and June 2022) but the product is still very sound. They just had a few "learning-curve" experiences in their early days. I honestly hope the best for this company because this job helped my family get rid of a lot of debt and I made some great memories along the way. The product itself really did do a major service to their restaurant partners who could be struggling for extra revenue.

Pros

Decent pay, unlimited time off, some solid/smart people

Cons

What a mess. Where do I begin? 1) While the 'idea' of a Virtual Kitchen may have legs -- the execution is terrible. Inedible food, that basically no one at the company would actually ever choose to order. Private review system for virtual kitchens that are only visible internally so as not to dissuade potential customers; but having seen those reviews I would literally never (ever, ever, ever) choose to order from a Nextbite brand. 2) Management is scattered and unfocused - creating and then eliminating concepts that do not align with the overall company business strategy driven by pure ego? Not sure how some of these ideas were developed. 3) Overall lack of transparency and poor human skills. Little to no acknowledgement of the poor reviews, no acknowledgement of financial woes. Every standup meeting was a session of patting-ourselves-on-the-back preceded by a hip-hop song meant to get everyone excited and feeling awesome! Layoffs were executed with a bunch of employees on Zoom getting the news at all the same time with their manager and a junior HR member on the line. Impersonal and awkward. 4) Product team is a disaster. Full of people who have little to no experience in their roles. This includes the head of product, who passively cheered everyone on with no leadership and no clear direction. Roadmap is impossible to follow. Building anything was incredibly slow.

Thanks for the feedback about your experience. As you know we are continually trying to connect with the tastes of potential customers; many concepts work and some don't. We use private ratings that you mentioned on our pilots, like many others do, to be able to get feedback early in our process, so we understand whether something is indeed working or how we can tweak it to make it better. Our weekly stand-ups are a way to continue our culture of transparency, “straight talk,” and have a little fun to start the week. We were saddened to say goodbye to many talented colleagues as we made a difficult decision to pivot our business strategy. We continue to do everything we can to assist those who have left the company, including severance packages, outplacement assistance, and job recommendations. We believe in our talented leadership and employees. Feel free to reach out to me at alex.canter@nextbite.io if you’d like to further discuss your experience. -Alex Canter

Pros

Unlimited PTO and good benefits. The pay was not awful, average for industry.

Cons

Little diversity Management is promoted for seemingly no reason - it feels like no one knows what they are doing. They’ve laid off staff not just at the beginning of COVID but also since then and before then due to a lack of ability to make money demonstrating major irresponsibility from senior leadership and the C-Suite. Not impressed by Alex Canter, who doesn’t seem to have any idea what he is doing but continues to peddle PR about how VKs are “the future.”

It's been hard to say goodbye to talented Nextbite employees recently as we’ve shifted our business strategy. Although it saddens me to hear that you did not enjoy all of your time with us, I do appreciate that you are engaging us in “straight talk” about your experience. We believe Virtual Kitchens will continue to provide consumers even more options in the future and will help restaurants thrive year after year. Nextbite will always be looking to innovate in this space, which involves testing new ideas, and learning along the way what will make them truly successful. Lastly, I’m discouraged to read the comments about diversity. We have really strived to create an environment that celebrates and commits to diversity in people and thought. We have tried to reinforce this commitment in everything from how we interview to development and promotional opportunities.
