Pros

Good place to start your career. Lots of great people, willing to answer questions and help you learn. Relaxed work environment. Decent pay and benefits. Some good middle level managers.

Cons

Struggling leadership, vague vision for company direction. A service corporation posturing as a products company. Very hierarchical, autocratic management structure. Lots of managers, directors, and vice presidents versus individual contributors. You will be told to get something done with few guidelines and vague expectations - then told to redo it at the last minute. Zero work / life balance. Be ready to work 50-60 hour weeks because of poor planning by management. Top performers put in a lot overtime and receive no meaningful recognition (raises, bonuses, etc.). Nearly impossible to get a promotion or change roles.

Pros

Get to work with a few good developers. Emphasis on writing clean and efficient code. Exposure to a lot of technologies. Get to work on interesting and challenging problems. One of the few core software development companies in Houston. Work experience and programming skills acquired at PROS look impressive on resume. Free soda, snacks and leftover lunch from client meetings.

Cons

Bonus and salary increments are small. Benefits are average. Cannot cash out PTO balance when you leave. Typical office politics, managers play favorites. Developers (and wannabe managers) occasionally follow latest fad and start promoting new technology without giving thought to its implementation. High probability that you will get boxed in one role and go nowhere even after spending a decade there. Workload is heavy, company puts a lot of pressure on developers in the name of keeping major airline clients happy.

Pros

Hard to say, some nice people, overall challenging work

Cons

Too many leaders, they have gotten over-loaded with Vice Presidents.....not enough people doing the work. No work/life balance, pay not competitive, many senior managers operate in silos and not qualified to be leaders.

Pros

great products, flexible schedule, open to switching role

Cons

Lot of people working here for 8 to 10 years are just sitting on good title but not working at all to bare minimum. Managers are aware of this but they just pour work on people who are taking things up quietly and side eye the lazy once.
