Pros

Pay was good. Vacation, sick, and personal time. Benefits were good.

Cons

If you want to have a life don't bother. They have added on tons of responsibilities and new technology to help us supposedly be more efficient, but wont give us the payroll to effectively perform our jobs. They base reviews on call in coupons ( smiles scores) from the customer and let that decide our fate which is unfair to the stores that are single coverage and have coupons printing up every transaction. They don't realize if you are alone doing a return or stuck at the counter with a line and you are alone that actions of the smiles survey coupons are going to be missed. Of course resulting in lower scores. I got let go for smiles scores and sales being down 2 years in a row and 4 stores closed in my plaza which I had no control over. They need to change the review formatting for the economy's decline it's unfair. I controlled what I could and that was operational excellance of rack rep, tagging, and shipment processing with a 98%-100% in all 3 categories and only got a meets and that shouldve been exceeds. Their technology for labor scheduling is tainted because it doesn't count shared labor on the reports for stores. Also Kronos schedules people for 3.5hr shifts instead of 1 person for 7 hours which is just plain dumb on their part. Who wants to waste the gas for a 3.5 hr shift when they are only getting paid $7.00 and hour as it is??? Also the audit's inour district have been a mess, reports have been messed up, theres so much unecessary paperwork it's unbelieveable and we do things in duplicate for our DM for Huddles when its all in the smiles books. It's very demanding and Our DM threatened people and treated people like dirt and hardly tells anyone that they are doing a good job. She's rude, demeaning, doesn't respec t the feelings and opinions of others. It's not a very inspiring environment when you are trying your hardest to do your best. Lets put it this way, I've been with the company for 12 years and never had a problem with any of the DMs except my last one.

Pros

The pay and benefits were good. You get alot of personal, vacation and sick time but are unable to use it becuase of not having enough people because of payroll. Used to be fun working here the first half of my career ,second half was horrible.

Cons

You work 45++++ hours a week. You have to work 12 hour days alone because someone calls off and you don't have anyone else to cover. You work like a dog and then fired for no good reason. Management intimidates you about smiles scores. when we didn't have smiles the sales were good. Now they are bad because we are annoying the customers. Errors in paperwork all the time and noone does anything about it. managers cheat on their smiles scores so they don't get berated and written up. dms do absolutely nothing except sit in the backroom on the computer or phone. I missed so many things with my family because of this job.

Pros

was compensated very well and promoted to better positions in the past. I was hired 9 years ago and promoted very quickly and paid very well. I loved Payless and loved my job! Then Matt Rubel became our CEO and the company just changed. We were threatened all the time and told how much we stunk. We were made to harass customers and our payroll was cut so much we couldn't even schedule enough employees to handle the RIDICULOUS workload. Towards the end I actually had stomach problems from the stress this company put me through.

Cons

way too much paperwork, ridiculous customer service modules to follow...absurd payroll to run store. I actually found errors in the sales figure for my store and took it to my district manager where it was discovered (after they belittled me) that YES I was right and the sales figures were wrong! If those figures are wrong what else is inaccurate (like customer service scores) I could be way up one week and never so much as got a pat on the back but if ONE score was called in the next week and it was under a 67 I was screamed at and threatened. Within one year 21 managers were fired or stormed out of their stores. They don't pay enough for the stress they put you through.
