Pros

-Great portfolio of pharma clients -Advanced analytic offerings -Enthusiastic, young talent -Great team members who can help you through a mental breakdown right after their own mental breakdown

Cons

It seems from previous reviews the social team is no different from the analytic team. If you join the analytic team, prepare for unrealistic standards for billability, workload, hours, and growth. Real Chemistry or W2O Group, whatever they want to call themselves these days, is a company that makes themselves look great from the outside. But once you are within the organization for a period of time, you immediately regret your decision to work there. My time at the company was met with some of the worst mental health moments of my life. And I have the upper management and culture at W2O to thank for that. Working in the analytics department, you are met with senior leadership who have no clue of the true needs for their teams, are absent, and are not actually people you can go to with your problems and then you have middle leadership who belittle, gaslight, and pressure employees to comply to every word they say. But when a project goes wrong, they claim they never told you to take that approach and throw you under the bus. Upper management never takes the blame even though they are the face of the account. The senior management at W2O only looks out for themselves and the ones who suck up and work endless hours with no complaints. If you are an employee who does great work but does not offer to work on weekends every time you are asked or stay late every day, then they do not have your back! If you express you are having issues with your direct manager being micro-managing and belittling, you will be met with empty promises of switching to a new manager and then the awful feeling of your senior leadership not having your back, even though they preach they are there for every one on the team. Your complaints will be held against you and you will be viewed as "too emotional" and "not being able to handle criticism." There is a clear hierarchy within the analytics team with people who have been there for years being the only people who are consistently promoted. Sometimes being promoted every year instead of those below them who are working hard to advance in their career. Until some of these higher up members leave, there is no room for promotions past Director. So if you are looking for growth, this is not the company for it. Even though W2O is a healthcare focused company, they do not care about your wellbeing as an employee. The upper management preaches about work/life balance and diversity and inclusion but in reality, they create a culture of the exact opposite. Employees in the analytic department do not sign off before 7PM, or else you are met with passive aggressiveness and chats about not pulling your weight. As I have said before, there is a clear favoritism within the analytics department. Only the favorites of the department get the new, highly visible projects to ensure they receive a promotion during the next cycle. The rest of the analytics staff are just numbers churning out repeating reports to appease the client and the contract. If you get the opportunity to be put on a new project, hope you do not mess up at all because you will not be given a second chance. Similar to the complaints from the social team, analysts and senior analysts are expected to be 95% billable. But if you have internal meetings that you are required to attend, like trainings, all hands, and team meetings, you are expected to work more than 40 hours a week to ensure you are still meeting the 95% billability. Employees are expected to work 50+ hours a week or else they are told they are not meeting the standards of the team and get flagged to higher up leaders in the company. The emphasis that is placed on billability is greater than the emphasis placed on the quality of work. The "unlimited" PTO that is offered by the company is not really unlimited. If you take more than two weeks throughout the year, not even all at once, you are flagged as taking too much time. Even the idea of requesting a few days off, with 6 months notice, is met with passive aggressiveness. And then when the time comes, managers try to convince you to cancel it and make you feel bad for taking time to yourself. If you have a loved one that passed away, you are reminded in your time of distress that you can only take one bereavement day unless they were a direct family member, like a sibling, child, or parent. Also, when you decide to leave the company, you are met with petty behavior from everyone higher than a director. HR does not give an actual exit interview (because of the high turnover rate in analytics and issues within the department) and you get a word monkey survey to substitute talking to an actual human. A total cop out so they do not have to hear the same complaints that they refuse to address. Also, Directors in the department will never say a word to you again once you put your two weeks in. They will actively avoid saying goodbye, wishing you well, etc. Real Chemistry/W2O has a clear lack of quality managers and directors. I would not recommend working here until there is a clear change in how the company and management is run.

Pros

A very clear strategy of catch and release here. Pull you in with high pay. It's like a revolving door. So I suppose a pro is that you really shouldn't feel bad about leaving!

Cons

Have you seen the show "Severence"? I swear it could have been filmed here. I've never witnessed a culture so utterly toxic. It felt like I was being punked. An insanely bloated upper management means that your "director" level positions here mean nothing and are functionally very junior. The internal promoting without leadership development has created an environment where 22 year olds raised in a toxic environment go on power trips. I went from running a large team at a prior agency to being treated like a child and had emails double and triple edited. Like many places the "unlimited" PTO is an utter fraud meant to save the company money. The kicker here is that managers regularly reject any and all requests, even those made months in advance. To top it all off the work being done here lacks teeth, and any attempts to push for data-driven approaches are quickly squashed for "the way we've always done it."

Pros

-Very smart, inspiring team members -Unlimited PTO -Great benefits -Lots of room to switch accounts and get your hands on all types of businesses

Cons

-Late nights and weekend work with little to no appreciation the majority of the time. On an intense congress-driven account, I asked the team lead if we can order lunch during a weekend monitoring role from ~7am until early evening, and she literally started laughing. -Time off/flexible, but if your account is busy, work > personal life. I made a mistake on an account that the client noticed in the midst of me dealing with a bad personal issue that I should have taken time off for (but my account was super busy and the high pressure prevented me from doing so). Leadership made sure that I remembered that for every performance review. Despite glowing peer reviews, client praise and even helping to win and expand new business, they resisted promoting me for years after the mistake up until my departure from the company (very disheartening to see those who you mentored get promoted to levels above you).

Real Chemistry Response

Thank you for sharing feedback on your time at Real Chemistry and where we can continue supporting employees. We agreed that with great people supporting great clients, it’s easy to find tons of opportunity to develop in your career! And while we will be the first to recognize the demanding schedule of a client services business, we absolutely believe that your well-being is no less important. I’m sorry to hear you did not feel empowered to take time off, as we absolutely support the use of flexible PTO to give everyone the opportunity to recharge and take time away—for whatever reason you need. We also have a policy in place to support employees for meals and travel outside of regular business hours—and if you find yourself in any of our offices you’ll also find an endless supply of snacks, beverages, and many agency-sponsored meals! If any questions on the support available, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your HR partner or business leader. - Wendy Carhart, Chief Communications, Culture, and Purpose officer
