a very uncommon opportunity

Pros

* Freedom to decide how best to accomplish your goals * Transparent leadership * Amazing Team ( seriously, people are engaged and positive ) * Healthy business We're a startup. We're honest when we accomplish our goals, and we're honest when we fall short. Our evaluations and decisions are very data driven. This isn't the right environment if ownership is not a thought that appeals to you, but it's a great place to work if you are motivated by ownership ( over your work, and in the company )! I look forward to coming into work here daily, I enjoy being constructively challenged by my coworkers, and I have very positive feels about the product that we're building.

Cons

* Freedom to decide how best to accomplish your goals * Transparent leadership

Pros

Still a fairly small startup (80+) so there's not a huge amount of layering here. I met with our CEO, CTO, VP of Product, Director of Talent, and our EVP, and I was interviewing for a fairly mid-level role. You will get daily exposure to c-level and VP's, and everyone here is completely un-siloed. Over the course of my career I have learned the somewhat painful lesson to interview the company as much as they are interviewing me, and this was a place that RealSelf really separated itself from everywhere else that I have worked (Amazon, agency, Capitol One, Avvo). Everyone that I talked to were not only really open and engaging, but were also high-impact people that I had either heard about already, or knew the projects and companies they had launched by reputation. Aside from that, everyone has a life outside of work --there is a great sense of balance here and it is one of the few places I've ever worked where people aren't defined by what they do from 9 - 5. I came here because I thought it was an amazing fit for career growth, but I also came here because the people I interviewed with were amazing. If you're looking for a place to both grow your existing skillset while also working with great people to possibly branch into other areas of interest, RealSelf is definitely worth checking out.

Cons

None so far --it's a bootstrapped startup environment, so structure is left up to employees and their boss which can be difficult for people coming from enterprise-level companies.

Turning into a call center

Pros

RealSelf has an amazing group of talented individuals who are motivated and passionate about what they do. The company is definitely growing fast opening up opportunity for growth and learning. They bring in catered lunches every other week, dog friendly office, stocked kitchen with drinks and snacks, beer and wine Friday's, you get your birthday off, Christmas week off and almost all the major holidays off.

Cons

Unfortunately everyone is friends on the sales team which leads to a TON of favoritism from the sales management. I've seen sales leaders get coffee and lunch with the same reps, give shoulder massages and help reps meet their goals by giving them preferential treatment and hot leads. How can a rep succeed if all they are given to close are garbage leads. The leadership in place lacks experience in motivating team members and providing positive feedback. It is starting to feel like a call center.

Thank you for your feedback. It sounds like we haven't been transparent enough with how we prioritize leads and account. We will do a better job of that so everyone can see how fair we are with our processes and operations. The processes we use are all based on performance and other data driven factors and not on favoritism. I encourage you to come talk with me (Maureen) directly about these or any other concerns you may have about the sales team.
