Pros
For me it’s never been about what you do, but who you do it with and for. RealSelf is committed to hiring the best of the best, but never "not nice people" (I was blocked from using my preferred term). There is no place for them here and that is evident from day one. Having both a big corporate and startup background, I was skeptical of this, but have been pleasantly surprised that it’s true. My colleagues are diverse in all respects of the word, but equally fun and smart people. Work life balance is a real thing here, it’s embedded in the culture. We are frequently rewarded with catered lunches, company outings, and fun surprise activities. Also, competitive salaries and benefits from day one. Excellent location and dog friendly. I mean, it really doesn’t get much better than that.
Cons
As with any growing company there will always be a degree of ambiguity and need for flexibility and patience. This isn’t so much a con for me as I knew this coming in and I prefer this type of environment because it evokes ideas and encourages change, however I do think some people struggle with it and should be aware that it’s a very real part of working here. We are growing fast and I worry we may have to relocate from this awesome location, let's not do that.
