Shiny on the outside, rotting on the inside

Pros

Peers are fun and authentic, the kind you actually want to be friends with.

Cons

Very difficult politics and internal communication: it seemed like I could never get a straight answer about anything. Teams would shift, priorities would change regularly, people would quit and there was always this weird way of covering it up with some half baked cookie cutter response. Terrible meeting culture: lots of meetings happened for the sake of meeting. Wednesday's were reserved for no meetings but people would just use that as a "last resort" which actually happened all the time. My day consisted of 80% meetings. Lots of ego: I think management got too over confident with their valuation and they think there's nothing wrong, as if high valuation = successful company = happy employees. The bubble is bursting and the culture is dead. There needs to be a hard reset to retain existing talent. Misleading culture: leadership talks a lot about having good culture and being transparent, but anyone who has constructive criticism of the company will often be punished for not being "Ro first." Of course, there are always great managers in any organization, but most that I have encountered turn a blind eye and will often make excuses for the company or leadership.

Toxic work place

Pros

Competitive salary, some genuinely good people in company, nice office.

Cons

The company looks shiny from the outside but once you are on the inside you will find that there is no strategy, there are constantly changing priorities with leads scrambling to meet the new expectations, which in turn will change 2-3 weeks later and the cycle will start all over again. Every work week feels chaotic and tense - you will run out of steam after a few cycles. To make it worse there is very little autonomy and trust in teams, the culture is pretty arrogant and top down - you will most likely be micro managed and bullied to do as you're told. They pose as a modern company but have incredibly toxic practices that feel outdated. Ro will say that it's a "fast-paced start-up environment" but it's more than that - it's plain chaotic. I hope this may help you if you are on the fence about joining and save you the headache.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we’re sorry that you felt this way about your time with Ro. We agree that there has been a lot of change that has happened over this past year in particular. We sometimes feel the stress of that too, but ultimately believe many of these changes have been necessary to continue to evolve based on learnings about our business over time and in light of an ever-changing broader market. We always look to our north star of goal oriented healthcare for our patients, and believe that our recently implemented AOP (Annual Operating Plan) process, through which each team lays out their goals and key investments for the coming year, will help to create longer-term clarity for Ro’ers, knowing that adapting will always be necessary, even with the best laid plans. At no point should anyone feel bullied and if you didn’t report this through our available channels during your time at Ro and would like to discuss this, or any of your feedback, please reach out to us at people@ro.co.

Pros

The employees are Ro are great and are there for the mission.

Cons

Ro sells it self as a patient centric model but really they are just a Men's Health Company. Every three months the business model changes. They acquired a Women's Health company and then deprioritized growing it (layoff 50% of the team!). The CEO of Ro lied and told everyone there would be no lay-offs with constant reassurance they were cash flow positive. This was then followed by an 18% layoff.

Hi there. We appreciate you sharing your feedback. Women’s health has been and will continue to be a priority at Ro. We have over 200,000 patients identifying as women who we are supporting for metabolic health, mental health, sexual health, and dermatology. We see a huge opportunity in fertility to become even more of a driver of that growth -- especially as we launch more products and services within fertility and more broadly within women’s health. We completely own and acknowledge that the message about layoffs shifted over the course of a few months -- and the honest answer was we were not contemplating cuts when the question was first asked and answered. But as market conditions continued to deteriorate over time, we unfortunately realized we needed to take more drastic measures to protect the business long term. The People Team is working diligently to support current and former Ro’ers through this difficult transition time. If you need additional resources or would like to discuss your feedback further, please reach out to people@ro.co.
