Pros

Flexibility, autonomy, WFH without needing hardwired internet, previously very predictable work

Cons

When I started working at Ro, we had our care verticals that were solid, predictable, and reliable. There were definitely areas that needed improvement (especially with regards to patient safety protocols and having a solid foundation in organizational policy), but there was a lot of autonomy, lots of opportunity for professional development, and honestly, for the first time ever, I felt like I was actually respected as a nurse (rather than having both patients and provider's needs/desires made priority over mine as a nurse). ...and then the GLP-1 craze came to Ro. Suddenly, we were scaling far faster and far beyond our clinical capacity; chasing medications that are just not available in the community and with no ETA for when they will be widely available; changing policies to better bolster the bottom line but calling it "winning" for the patient; changing policies that weaken patient safety, etc. The list goes on and on. I was always highly suspicious of the Kool-Aid they were peddling but chalked it up to being unfamiliar with the technology/start-up world. Now, I cannot help but see a lot of parallels between Ro's current status and the beginning of the end for Theranos. Hopefully there is no investment fraud going on too...

I want to start by saying I am so disappointed to hear that this has been your experience at Ro. I’d be happy to meet with you 1:1 to talk in more detail and you can reach out to me at any time to set that up (dr.b@ro.co) - but I want to acknowledge a few concerns you mention here. You mention how things have changed since you first started working at Ro. We have worked incredibly hard to grow and scale our practice operations in addition to our business and our offerings. While it’s true we’ve added additional structure since you first joined, we have done so in a way that is intended to create paths of progression, development, and continue to add benefits to our provider experience that is intended to show much we appreciate all that you and the rest of the providers do for our patients. On GLP-1s – A lot has changed since the early days of launching the Body Program. As you mention, we did originally scale faster than our clinical capacity could handle – and we have made many adjustments since that time to improve both the provider and patient experience, while never compromising on patient safety or quality of care. Many, many platform developments, patient experience workflows, provider operations, and more have gone into addressing this pain point, and we are in a much better position today to manage the patient demand we are seeing. To suggest otherwise is a flagrant mischaracterization of reality. Finally - Ro is made up of a lot of passionate and dedicated providers, pharmacists, AND non-clinical experts. Does this mean we are “peddling Kool-Aid”? No. Does this mean there will be conviction and energy behind our mission and the initiatives we invest in to achieve positive health outcomes for patients? Yes. There is a difference here, and I want to be clear on that. In terms of burnout among RPM staff – this is definitely something we are actively monitoring. We care deeply about our providers – me especially – and we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure they are set up for success here. Again, I would welcome the chance for a live discussion on many of the things you mention here if you are up for that. Dr. Melynda Barnes Chief Medical Officer, Ro & President, RPM

Pros

A few talented folks sprinkled throughout the company

Cons

Ro has a great mission and, from the outside looking in, seems to be promising. However, the reality is drastically different than what they try to sell you on. The tech debt is enormous and there doesn't seem to be any strategy or acknowledgment that we are completely lacking one. If you are unsure about Ro, please read the article by Tech Crunch -- "Employees detail rising tensions at Ro as healthcare unicorn struggles to grow beyond first win". Take it from someone who's been here for awhile, 95% of the article is spot on. If you're looking for a place with great culture, a company that actively works towards its vision and mission, leadership that values diversity of thought and understands product development, and an environment that is psychologically safe and rewards employees who know how to live balanced lives, please look somewhere else. Ro is not your place. You will be very disappointed and most likely burn out. Every other day we hear of another resignation or someone getting pushed out. The entire experience has been unsettling. Although there are a few red flags, it's not until you immerse yourself that you realize how deep the issues run. Don't join a company that others are scrambling to leave.

We’re so sorry to know that you’re feeling this way, especially as a current employee at Ro. Our views on the Tech Crunch article are well-reflected in Z’s Medium post and the various feedback channels we have - both pre and post article - continue to reflect a culture that is not experienced in that way by most people working here. That said, if you are feeling this way, we sincerely hope you’ll make the time to talk with us in more detail about the experiences you’re having that lead you to feel this way. If you’re looking for a place to start, we have a Notion page dedicated to the available feedback channels and we have an upcoming Culture Survey as well. You can also feel free to reach out to your manager, the people team or the founders at any time. We would welcome the opportunity to talk directly and to learn more.

Pros

• Great benefits and fair compensation • Friendly staff and motivated workers

Cons

The company is shady to their customers and gaslight at any turn they can. They haven't figured out what they want to do as a business despite being launched for several years now and still claim they are a "start up". The truth is that they keep changing medical angles for fast cash and what's trending. This means they constantly need to pivot focus to new launches. Instead of training existing employees with knowledge of the system and company on the new programs, they hire new employees. These new employees have 8 weeks to mostly read, hardly practice, and then pass their training to almost a T. They leave room for no error. Coachings are counted into your QA scores and their auditing is very biased based on who is grading your work. The owners are very into themselves and how they are changing the industry but they aren't. The benefits are truly amazing but the environment is toxic despite meeting some of the nicest people I've ever worked with. Confusing right?
