Terrible Engineering Leadership

* The pay is pretty good * Lots of really great and talented people

Cons

Engineering leadership is a case study in how not to run an engineering organization: * Top down "because I said so" leadership style * No strategic vision - everything is tactical * Focus on processes over people * Engineers are treated as fungible resources * Extreme focus on hitting (truly) arbitrary deadlines rather than making sure what is delivered is of high quality and appropriate for the business's needs * Large amounts of micromanagement * SVPs and above flippantly dismiss industry veterans concerns on a weekly basis

Dysfunctional and disconnected

Pros

The RxIQ Enterprise and RxIQ engineering teams, QA, and product managers are all great teams and people to work with and are incredibly collaborative and communicative. Internal stakeholders on the client success and account management teams are also good to work with, insightful and valuable with troubleshooting production issues, and are reasonable in their requests while also helping product teams manage client demands and expectations.

Cons

Upper management is top heavy and does not seem to have a clear vision about the direction for the organization. In the two years I was employed there, there were two massive reorganizations of the Product and Innovation team, which contributed to a challenging work environment and culture where we did not know what to expect next. Meanwhile, the company seems to be at its clients' mercy rather than taking full ownership of its products and offerings and truly driving innovation in the marketplace. The CEO's focus on outdated business practices and focusing heavily on sales pipelines while ignoring the realities of operating and leading a tech company also lead to skewed priorities both for the company and employees, i.e., enforcing return to office policies in late 2023 when a majority of the company's workforce was spread across the United States.

To get promoted, you have to be related to someone in leadership. It's honestly bizarre. No Clear vision, very reactionary, major boys club.
