Best thing I did was get out of there
Pros
Please note when I am writing this. I am writing it on 2/8/2024. My time ended toward the end of 2023. I want to be mindful of the good and decent people around me while I was there, primarily the leads I had, the regional manager, and Human Resources. Any and all support and kindness flowed through them. I also had wonderful experiences with PCCs. The corporate people, with the exception of the regional manager, are absolutely awful. I was supported and heard by lead therapists and HR. That is the pro. There is no other good at sensible care
Cons
Most people WFH. The place is so terrible I was getting anxious just walking by my home office. There is absolutely nothing you can do to feel good about anything there. You are never doing enough for them, ever. And the reason so much is asked of therapists is the corporate office makes horrible business decisions, such as expanding into states that don’t have a market (then firing probably between 20 and 30 therapists in a random meeting one morning). Those people all had their lives disrupted, as did their clients, because Sensible Care is careless. They also continually hire people when the therapists they currently have don’t have filled schedules yet. Then you get in trouble for it. You will get one day of “training,” then have the expectation of clients and a quickly growing caseload the next day. You’ll be told you have control over your schedule (that is mostly true), the populations you work with, and to treat it like a “private practice.” That is absolute BS. The time of your schedule, yes. Everything else? Absolutely not. You can only make decisions that bring in money. Client care and wellbeing of staff aren’t part of the equation. They sell you on a lie that you just are there to be a therapist. Also not true. Enjoy all the admin work you won’t be paid for. You will be strongly encouraged to book clients at 20% above your capacity to make up for cancellations. You will be told to schedule people during your case management hour. You will be told to schedule people during lunch. I would imagine there is going to be an inevitable department of labor lawsuit over these issues, and it’s going to be so gratifying. They sell the idea of getting paid for no shows or late cancellations as a perk. It is not. Hear me when I say this - it is NOT a perk. They will bludgeon you with it. Please believe all of us who have said this. You will no longer have a set schedule because you will so desperately want to avoid the condescending “support” Google chat asking why you had cancellations. You’ll put people anywhere to hit that almighty quota and productivity number to avoid this. And They can look to see why schedule changes happen, btw. Clients Out of state, sick, emergency, etc. They don’t care. So you will get a message demanding explanation. Imagine having a client with a critical family emergency, and getting to the point where your stomach drops not just for them, but because you will be in trouble for it. There is no room to be human - not for you or your clients. You will have to watch a training for requesting a waiver for a late cancel/no show fee. Part of the training, at least 2023, actually included that a person going into labor wasn’t a valid waiver request as they should “know their due date.” It is insanity. This is an online company, for the most part, but manages to be disgustingly cliquey. The leader of the in group cliquey nonsense seems to be someone from the corporate staff. I’d be more specific, but they all know and all have responsibility, and no one stops her. They aren’t checking that behavior. I guess enjoy the return to high school. You will feel like an outsider, because if you aren’t one of a handful of people, you are an outsider. Know your legal and ethical responsibilities, and know them well. They will pressure you to do things that are stunningly unethical. If a client has a disruption to their insurance, for example, they will not let you do a courtesy close out session. No money? They don’t want you around as a client, and best practices don’t matter. This is one example of an ethical issue. Believe me when I say there are far worse. Guard your license if you elect to read all of these warnings from so many, then still work there. The turnover is astonishing. There are people leaving, it seems, multiple times per week. I swear if someone comes on here from sensible care and argues this (as they have with others) I will publish a webpage with turnover stats. They aren’t the only ones who can track things. Last thing - the overwhelmingly positive reviews peppered in here? Don’t trust those. I’m pretty sure those are generated internally to offset what has been coming out about this company. It is hard to believe this place is solvent. You can’t be that bad at business, and that bad at basic human decency, and stay open. In short - the whole place is a con.
