Pros

Some departments in this company will provide you with great pay, a great work/life balance, and lots of opportunities for promotion within the company. The subordinates are hard working, down to earth people that care about everyone around them. I have no doubt that I have formed some lifelong friendships here. The benefits package is average to above average, although the health insurance coverage is lacking for the expense of the premiums. This second generation family owned franchisor company has made huge strides in getting their brand into the minds of the average consumer and are now working to do the same in the commercial arena. I honestly believe that the siblings in executive management want the best for their employees, but are unaware of a lot of the day to day issues that arise because the senior managers sugarcoat everything.

Cons

Before I get into the Cons, take every review since April 27, 2016 with a grain of salt. Their review average was 3 stars, so they posted on there in house computer message board, asking all employees to submit a review. "Financially Frugal" is not just a core value, it’s mandatory. There is someone in IT that has his computer screen and keyboard on used cardboard boxes because they will not raise the desk height in his cubical so he can stand while he works, at a cost of MAYBE 2 manhours by maintenance. If you need something to get your job done, buy it yourself or wait months for it to be approved… if it is approved. Not enough licenses for some software, so someone has to log out for another to get in. Trials and free software are unofficially encouraged. Hand-me-down computers are the norm. Mine has a windows xp sticker on it & I'm still using 7. Even after a promotion, you will be seen by management as whatever title you had when you started, so they can claim your making x% more than when you started, even if you took an entry level position to get in the door. Some departments are expected to regularly work 8-5 M-F, PLUS nights and weekends. During a storm situation is understandable, but not multiple time per month. Senior management are only focused on immediately pleasing the franchises with even the most trivial requests, at the expense of work/life balance for their employees. Middle management will not stand up for an employee, even if the employee is being treated unfairly. “No one has an issue with you… yet. Don’t rock the boat.” Outdated policies: Employee handbook says smartphones off in building, even though we are expected to have work email on our personal phones. Business professional dress code enforced for departments that would only see a franchisee or vendor in the cafeteria. they just stopped making men wear ties a couple years ago. Men are still required to wear button up shirts, slacks & dress shoes, but women can still get away with fancy tshirts and flipflops on the same team. They keep talking about how much there growing there numbers of corporate employees, but didnt expand the building or parking lot for the last group. They also took up part of the employee parking with trucks for sale. Now you have to get to work even earlier to find a decent space. They don’t have a kitchen, so they brought in a company that caters a different restaurant every day for 2 hours, but either the caterer closes early, the caterer didn’t show up, or it was way too expensive versus driving 10 minutes to an actual restaurant, so management complained to employees for not using it enough. $7 for a grilled cheese, $9 for a baked chicken leg quarter & a side? Thanks for the effort but really poor planning when most employees cannot afford $10 and up for a meal every day.

Servpro Industries Response

Thank you for your response. I appreciate you recognizing some of our Company’s “Pros.” We have worked hard to grow SERVPRO, to be an award-winning Franchisor, support our franchise community with great services, and be a leading “employer of choice” in Tennessee. This is SERVPRO Corporate’s first year sponsoring its Glassdoor account. Our Glassdoor Account Executive helped us build our site, made some good recommendations including asking our employees to post reviews. In the spirit of transparency, and to provide candidates with candid reviews from our employees, I asked employees to anonymously post their reviews on Glassdoor. I disagree with this employee’s comment, “take every review since April 27, 2016 with a grain of sand.” Only a small percentage of employees have posted their reviews, mostly favorable, and some unfavorable. Yes, we asked our employees to post reviews, but the posted reviews are honest reviews from our employees, their opinions, not mine, with the intent of full disclosure to candidates to best research career opportunities at SERVPRO Corporate in Gallatin, TN. The comments written by this employee are his opinions, and validates that SERVPRO encouraged its employees to post their opinions of SERVPRO, “pros” and “cons.” Based on our annual employee survey results, other Corporate employee Glassdoor reviews, and my personal observations, I encourage this employee to meet with her/his manager and/or HR to discuss/resolve these issues – real or perceived. For example, some employees have requested, and received “Varidesk” stand-up/sit down desks, all office employees’ PC’s are regularly updated, and many employees work whatever it takes to get their jobs done (growth/profit-oriented companies are busy). Our corporate culture, dress code and other aspects of our work environment is conservative and professional. “Top Workplace” has been awarded to SERVPRO Corporate back-to-back years, 2015 and 2016 – Large Employer category, based on the results from Employee Surveys. Again, I encourage this employee to take action and ask her/his manager and/or HR for assistance in resolving his/her observed “cons.” Thanks again for posting your review.

Pros

If you are in a clerical position you can potentially make it. If you are in a professional position (manager etc). The odds are against you in making it over 3 years.

Cons

If you are in middle management get ready for the "What have you done for me today" attitude. The two brothers and sister which own the company are completely dysfunctional. When you hear the word "Frugal: that means REALLY CHEAP! Employee turnover is over 10% annually. That should tell you something.

Thank you for your comments. At SERVPRO Corporate, located in Gallatin, TN, about two-thirds of the Company are comprised of salaried professionals and managers, and the other one third of our work force are mainly hourly administrative and production staff. Due to the success and growth of SERVPRO, all employees have opportunities for advancement, merit increases, etc., based on performance. "What you put into your career is what you will get out of your career" applies at SERVPRO. The second generation family owners have worked together with other members of the Executive Team, Managers and Employees, to take SERVPRO from a $100 Million to an almost $2 Billion Franchise system during their tenure. SERVPRO is an incredible success story, almost unprecedented success as compared to their competition. "Financially Frugal" is one of SERVPRO's Core Values. So, yes, SERVPRO runs a very successful budgeting process which has directly contributed the Company's success, maintained its debt-free status and offered above market merit increases to support its "pay for performance" compensation philosophy. SERVPRO Corporate's employment has grown from 150 to 450+ employees over the past ten years. Based on SERVPRO's rapid growth, employee turnover has been running at or below benchmark turnover rates in comparison to other mid-to-large corporate location organizations. Thanks again for your comments. I hope this addresses some of your concerns.

Pros

The franchise I worked for did have a few pros. We were given off for most holidays with pay (although production staff and some office staff would need to stay on call). The pay rate for my education/experience level and location was quite good. The franchise does provide vehicles for the sales and office staff to use during the work day.

Cons

As each franchise is independently owned and operated, I can only speak for the franchise I worked for. Management of my work ranged from non-existent to being micromanaged. Company policies changed at the drop of dime depending on who you were talking to and what day it was. Management frequently used inappropriate language while disciplining employees. One of the franchise owners commonly used racial slurs and told racist jokes in front of employees. Management, particularly the franchise owners, gossiped about employees' personal lives, education level/intelligence, etc...
