Pros

Great office space with lots of perks. Office / culture events are top notch. Great CEO with an inspirational story to tell. Bright engineering and data teams. Diverse team. Some good recent exec hires, including VP Ops, are promising for real change.

Cons

Middle management is highly inept. Lots of false starts, bureaucracy and politics for such a small size company. No direction. IKEA acquisition is still being figured out in terms of fit into strategy so causing a lot of spinning wheels to show movement. Too many tentative hires without a clear team charter. Lots of juvenile behavior on the part of middle management, little management training, lots of middle school level bickering to get work done instead of being data driven, silos already apparent within teams where "XYZ is not my problem unless it's in my OKRs". No real HR or support, C level execs are mostly encouraging and inspiring leaders but are spread far too thin to help run the business operationally; although rapid hiring is meant to improve the situation. Company struggling to adjust to its new pace, not enough muscle to understand high-growth mode whatsoever due to lots of both junior level hires w/ no real world experience AND a long standing exec team that has not experienced navigating growth for sometime. On the floor, it is a punitive environment with no room for error or disagreement on some teams. Disagreement w/ exec will get you in hot water with management, so go with the flow and do as you are told, or else. Lots of hypocrisy and not practicing what middle management preaches, phony baloney proclamations around "Middle Path listening to understand" that in practice are completely misused, management not following through and 1-way communication.

CEO?

Pros

Really good at throwing away money and great at avoiding accountability

Cons

The CEO is utterly useless and at times it is believed that she actively micromanages and disrupts plans because she's so insecure and ineffectual as a leader that she doesn't know what else to do with her time. She definitely doesn't know how to run a company or build an effective team. The growth of the company is bleaker and bleaker with her in charge. And that's why there is a question mark in the headline. On the bright side though, if you want to hear VPs and C-levels talk about globetrotting, how their au pair is working out (you read that right, yes), and them not being able to relate to the realities of the employees they under pay, this is definitely a company for you.

Absolutely Horrendous Leadership

Pros

Talented and passionate individuals at the team level. Immense joy and satisfaction at that level.

Cons

The organizational culture is largely influenced by its leadership, with Ania serving as the exemplar. Unfortunately, her leadership style leaves much to be desired. She struggles to connect with the majority of Taskrabbit's employees (she is self-serving) and faces challenges in retaining members of the leadership team. Furthermore, she continues to appoint incompetent leaders who align with her ineffective approach and accommodate her working style. Consequently, the company's culture has become toxic and excessively political, which is disproportionate to its size. Despite the company achieving record numbers, largely attributable to the hard work of its employees, there is a strong belief that these numbers could be even higher with a different CEO at the helm. However, from an external perspective, there appears to be no immediate reason to demand a change in leadership. I hope that the board or individuals from IKEA, as stakeholders, will conduct a thorough assessment of Ania's impact on the company.
