Great Place to Work for Some

Pros

Always a fun place. People enjoy working here and it shows. The company culture is second to none. A fast paced and innovative company to work for. Still have a ton of friends that still work there.

Cons

Upper management doesn't always recognize everyone fairly. It is a very merchandising-centric culture and they get all of the praise and recognition (highest paid). The culture does come at a cost and can be very distracting. Employees are beginning to be coddled too much and productivity suffers, but complaining about wages increases.

Pros

Great benefits like free health insurance, fun environment, lots of parties, there is always a parade or some fun event happening. The employees really do have a sense of comraderie and genuinely have fun at work. I don't dread going in everyday like I have at other jobs.

Cons

Zappos does not match 401k, my biggest complaint is that the pay is sub par especially if compared to similar companies. I have a bachelor's degree and previous experience in my position yet I can barely make ends meet and living alone is just a fantasy at this point. So much money is wasted on drinking and events. I could deal with less social events and more in my paycheck. It doesn't matter how great a company is if you can't afford a decent quality of life. I'm a single person with no children and not a ton of debt so I'm not asking for anything unreasonable.

Some drawbacks despite the hype

Pros

The people are friendly and fun. You get a social life overnight. Great teams.

Cons

Not happy place if you don't drink, go out at night and want to have a family. Not a children friendly place at all. (This is from someone with no significant other or kids). Senior management dates staff and you don't know who is currently "dating" who and who is friends with who from before Zappos. Next store neighbors, wives of neighbors and ex-gfs all work at Zappos.
