Pros

They credential you with insurances, they ensure you have a full caseload of clients, they give you plenty of systemic safety nets (eg, liability insurance, taking care of overhead, etc). Relatively little micro-management.

Cons

I would send an email to a department and frequently wait a week or more for a response. When I would receive it, it was perfunctory and half the time didn't address the actual issue. I would communicate with the chain of command and often not receive a reply, or a greatly delayed reply. The Billing department in particular has practices that border on unethical. I have had nonstop issues with client billing which I have dutifully and professionally attempted to resolve, of which very few have seen a satisfactory resolution. They bill clients large bills ($500+) with very little notice or explanation, and are extremely difficult to get ahold of to address the issue. There is no POC for client questions, so all queries get sent to a generic inbox that is massively under-staffed. The clinician compensation is way below market standard. They changed EHR platforms and the rollout was a disaster; they blamed the contracted company for failed promises, but they have failed promises to clinicians too many times to count or cite as a result of decisions like these.

Pros

I have worked at Thriveworks as a clinician since December 2018. I highly recommend a career with this company. I love that management is there to support you, if you need it, but they do NOT micromanage you. Thriveworks allows us to practice as the professionals that we are. As clinicians, we make our own schedules, completely. As for obtaining new clients, we just inform our Regional Clinical Director (RCD) that we are available to take X amount of clients, and typically I have those new client intakes within 24 hours. Our offices are beautiful. We have the choice to work a hybrid in-office and telehealth model. Some therapists, like myself, never left the in person setting during COVID, and I found Thriveworks to be supportive in that regard as well supportive to providers that chose to remain remote. Thriveworks does ALL of the legwork to get your credentialing on insurance panels, and I found they were able to do so pretty quickly. Once I was paneled to accept insurance, my caseload stayed full. Benefits are EXCELLENT, and in 2023, Thriveworks increased employee benefits even more. Benefits: 1. Full-time employees with one year of tenure at Thriveworks are eligible for 8 weeks of paid leave following the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child (New 2023 benefit) 2. Full-time clinicians are eligible for tiered student loan repayment assistance (New 2023 benefit) .Payments are made each pay period directly to our loan institution through BenefitEd.- AMAZING Benefit that pretty much covers my full loan payment. 3. Waived Mental Healthcare Costs- For employees on the PPO plan, there is no out-of-pocket cost. 4. Medical, Dental, Extended Dental covering orthodontics, Vision Benefits are covered at 75% of employee premiums and 50% of dependent premiums (Improved 2023 benefit). 5. 3 paid days (annually) of Mental Health PTO (Improved 2023 benefit) 6. We have the incredible option to contribute to a Vanguard 401k with a 3% match from the company. This is almost unheard of in this type of clinical practice setting. 7. Clinicians accrue 1 hour of PTO/ 30 clinical hours worked. 8. Paid Liability Insurance 9. 100% Employee Paid Benefits: Short-Term Disability; Long-term Disability; Critical Illness; Accident Insurance; Voluntary Term Life and AD&D Insurance; Life Insurance 100% Employer Paid Benefit = 100% of annual salary (max $150K)- 10. Continuing Education: Reimbursement up to $200 for Full-Time Clinicians & $100 for Part-Time Clinicians Provided you want Insurance Benefits, Thriveworks offers benefits to all clinicians that see a minimum of 50 clients in 2 weeks. And to restate- Obtaining clients is NOT an issue. You can also cash out your PTO at then end of each year, if you so choose. Regarding Pay: I find the pay reimbursement to be excellent, and I love that Thriveworks seem to increase therapists' pay with or above the market rate to remain competitive. I also like that I have the choice to see an extra client or 2 if I need the money or just have extra time to do so. Bonuses: We receive bonuses for completing our notes on time!!! Our pay also increases by percentage according to how many clients I choose to see. For example, should I choose to see 40 clients per week, Thriveworks gives us an extra 11% pay increase. Quality of Providers: Thriveworks hires the most qualified clinicians. It's really nice to work with high quality providers. Thriveworks' Clients: I think that I have the most quality clients that are dedicated to their growth. It is RARE that I only see a client 1-2 times. Clients stay, and I can only imagine that has to do with the quality of providers hired. I do truly appreciate Thriveworks and the awesome opportunity it continues to give me. I am certain that I have left some additional 'Pro" aspect of Thriveworks out, but I hope my general message is clear.

Cons

Potential "Con:" While I personally do NOT, in the least, consider the independence therapists are given to be a "Con, " I do understand that some professionals may prefer or require much more hands-on guidance. Nonetheless, Thriveworks always has someone for you to reach out to that will get back with you ASAP if you need support.

Pros

Flexible hours and scheduling. Come and go as you please. No micromanaging (or any managing for that matter).

Cons

1.) PAY - Don’t be misled by what is stated here on Glassdoor regarding pay for therapists at Thriveworks. There is absolutely no way you will ever be paid $105K a year. The pay is awful and severely undercuts industry standards. Pay for full time licensed clinicians (25 clients per week or more) is about $60k per year (pre tax). The only way to make over $100k a year is to see about 40-50 clients per week. The only way to make more income is to see more clients - period. When asked how I can make more $ I was told I could become a regional clinical director or a recruiter. After earning my master’s degree to be a therapist, working for years as an intern, and passing my licensure exam - I would like to continue being a therapist AND get paid well - not switch job roles and stop seeing clients! The are no raises, no matter how well you perform your job. You can get a small bonus (about $2 per client session) if and only if you make zero mistakes in billing or notes in the two week pay period. But one mistake and no bonus. 2.) BENEFITS - Benefits are awful and employees have to pay for half of their premium. There are cheaper and better private health insurance plans you can find on your own. 3.) RESPECT - Clinicians are treated like staff that work for the lead administrative and compliance teams - not as the backbone of the company that financially supports everyone who works there and plays an important role in helping individuals and our community. Clinician feedback is typically dismissed, ignored, and/or clearly not welcome. 4.) SUPPORT - Clinicians give over half their earned clinical pay to the company for Support and Billing. Insurance and self-pay rates are at least double what clinicians actually get paid. Might be worth it if they did an exceptional job, but both Support and Billing departments have created more damage than they have helped me or my clients. I have spent hours of unpaid time trying to fix billing and scheduling issues and doing damage control with my clients. I have had clients leave due to the consistent lack of customer service availability, their inability to actually help, and billing issues. After reading Glassdoor reviews from these staff members, I have compassion for them as they are clearly also underpaid and not trained correctly before being thrown into the fire. 5.) ETHICS - Thriveworks’ billing practices feel unethical and scammy. Clients are charged a $39 a month “membership fee” that is virtually impossible to cancel. This membership includes access to mental health resources and information that can be found via a Google or YouTube search and customer service that should be standard. Clients are told this $39 is what pays for Billing and Support. Eh hem, if only half of what insurance pays is given to me as a clinician, the other half should be enough to cover the minimal support me and my clients get from those departments! Our clients have mental health diagnoses and the last thing they need is to feel unsupported and scammed by their therapy provider!! 6.) PRIDE - Our office space is run down and needs new furniture and deep cleaning. Clients have made comments. Maintenance requests take months to go through and we’re lucky if they ever happen. It is the clinicians’ responsibility to track and alert admin if we need supplies or maintenance. Regional clinical directors are rarely, if ever, on site. There is zero in-office/live support for clinicians in crisis. A three week wait for an email response is typical from your regional clinical director. It’s also typical to just never get a response. 7.) ACCOUNTABILITY - As a clinician, I feel constantly blamed for any issue I encounter. There is rarely, if ever, an apology or recognition of fault from Support, Compliance, or any higher ups. Responses from Support and Compliance are either defensive and curt or dripping in toxic positivity to the point where I can’t tell if they are being sarcastic or not. Never an apology or compassionate word. If there is an issue, it is on me to address and fix. It’s normal to ask Billing, Compliance, or Support to help and be told you must reach out to clients and handle it yourself. Clinician mistakes are constantly being pointed out with vague compliance emails and used against us (no bonus) while there is literally no accountability or any repercussions for the administrative/billing/support team when they make mistakes. I don’t think they lose a bonus when they book something incorrectly, overcharge a client, fail to email back for 2 months. 8.) VALUES - It truly feels like money rules this company and determines Thriveworks’ decisions - not client care, a passion for improving this world, or respect for their clinicians. If corporate mental health is the way of the future, I’m very concerned for myself and my clients. 9.) FOLLOW THROUGH - At the time I left I had been waiting almost a year and was still not credentialed with 2 major insurance companies. I can sum this whole list up with a simple and sad example of how much Thriveworks values their clinicians - after working for this company for years, my holiday “bonus” was a crappy Thriveworks logo t-shirt that they probably got for $5 a pop. I decided to pass on being a walking billboard for this company and have donated all my Thriveworks t-shirts to the thrift store.
