Pros
Sue Rader, the general manager of the Charleston store, has actually managed to pull off the impossiblè. Somehow she manages to foster an intimate, familial environment without sacrificing professionalism or standards. Like most retail jobs, Toys R Us does not pay much above minimum wage and everyone starts out at part-time, with very little likelihood of ever becoming a full-time employee. For this reason alone I did not expect to be there long. However, two years later, I was not only still employed there, I also had no desire at all to leave. My co-workers were not only my friends, they were like my family, and I wanted nothing more than to remain there forever. In the end, the decision to leave was not my choice; but, it was beyond my control. Circumstances necessitated that I go but I will never forget that place or those people and I will never stop missing them all.
Cons
The pay was ridiculously low and the near impossibility of becoming a full-time employee was frustrating to say the least. Also, if Sue was the heart of TRU, Donald Robinette was the soul. Unfortunately, Donald is no longer there. Corporate made the decision to pass him over for a promotion which he very much deserved. So, of course, when he was offered a better position elsewhere, he accepted it and left TRU. With his departure the entire atmosphere at that store changed. It is no longer quite the second home that it once was.
