Pros

Has inclusivity programs in place and offers business resource groups for all sorts of backgrounds and interests. Offers a variety of job opportunities.

Cons

Does the minimum required by law. For instance, as someone who lives in a state that isn't California, I get 6 weeks short term disability for maternity leave and my California colleagues get 18 weeks paid disability. The company is unwilling to treat everyone equal by expanding the best program to all employees, despite anyone who lives outside of CA voicing the inequity. They also seem to find ways around paying out their incentive programs. I once referred a colleague to an opening at VSP and because my colleague did not click on a specific link to apply, the company would not honor the referral fee. I have been there for 5 years and every year seems to have a major restructure, which results in job losses and ambiguity.

Pros

Great coworkers, benefits, and a company that really listens to feedback from its employees. Good work life balance and they handled the pandemic well. They have shown they are a flexible and forward thinking company that wants to focus on the future and not just getting people back into the office.

Cons

Nothing that another large organization wouldn't have: silos, occasional bureaucratic leadership, ect. But like I said, they really are adapting and focusing on breaking down barriers here.

Pros

Employee benefits, job security if you are corporate (last layoff was feb-march 2020) . good wlb, managers friendly, corporate and ceo executives are good with annual bonus incentives.

Cons

Seems that moving up in this company involves a little favoritism, or just depends what team you are in.

Pros

Most of the people I work with are awesome and the work we do is valuable. Since Covid, remote working is now the norm, which is nice as it saves employees time & resources in commuting, and helps to spare the environment a little.

Cons

Management in some areas is terrible, resulting in toxic working environments, with little to no trust, where employees are treated like children instead of skilled professionals. Very little autonomy or empowerment. Technology is extremely antiquated and the backlog of tech debt is astonishing, which severely limits the company's ability to operate efficiently and be competitive. Change is laborious and very slow to be implemented. So much potential and opportunities are lost as a result of the company's inability to recognize the need for changes and then act on making them happen. Pay is well below industry norms. Quality of the employment benefits declines every year. Healthcare benefits get more expensive every year, with no added value. Little to no career advancement opportunities for most employees.

Pros

Since starting my role at VSP Vision, managers have treated me with respect, they have given me gift cards as thank you gifts, employee silver vision awards, and many social events to help promote team building. They also encourage me to take workshops and courses for professional development. Their salary is pretty competitive too.

Cons

Benefits could be better. They have increased the amount of PTO for 2023, and the new medical plan for 2023 is better than the previous year. However, they don't offer paid maternity leave, PTO takes awhile to build up, and dental insurance is not cheap. Also, there's no room for advancement. Most people at VSP Vision have worked there for 20 plus years and they haven't changed roles at all. So if you work here be prepared to stay in the same role for awhile, unless you decide to move internally to another team or department.
