Pros

VSP is a fabulous place to work! I look forward to coming to work each day because it doesn’t feel like a job. I’m on a great team of people with incredible insights who like to laugh and have fun, but also get hard work done. We are open, honest, and supportive—and most importantly, we’re treated by management like human beings who have lives outside of work. I have incredible flexibility in my role and can work from home as often as I need to (due to childcare issues/sickness, car trouble, emergencies, etc.). My pay is definitely fair, and my hard work is rewarded every year with a bonus and raise. The benefits are exceptional, although the health plan is high deductible, but we don’t pay any premium for health or vision insurance, so I really can’t complain. NO employers out there offer basically FREE health and vision. There’s a ton of career development training classes offered so I can build my skills in any area I want. Management also encourages us to focus on our careers so we can evolve within VSP and look forward to the next step (and to avoid burnout in our current role). I’ve never had an employer care so much about my career and happiness in what I do every day. I appreciate that VSP is always looking for honest input to help improve the employment experience so all employees, regardless of role or location, feel like I do. It’s a true testament to the great culture they’re creating company-wide. My favorite novelty things about VSP? Glasses, Halloween, Christmas, Cake Day, Volunteer Opportunities (in the community and on the mobile clinics), Employee Discounts, Freebies to Concerts and Sports Games, Take Your Child to Work Day, Take Your Parent to Work Day, Business Resource Groups, On-Campus Gym, Outdoor Lunch and Meeting Spaces, and Bi-Annual All Staff with CEO.

Cons

I honestly have no cons.

Worst Job I Ever Had

Pros

Can't really think of any other than you're employed.

Cons

Where to start... Punitive environment. Abusive environment. Employees seem friendly but then throw you under the bus every chance they get. No real goals just talking about all the things that need to get done. A lot of what but now how or why. Privately held company run by old men. They have to approve everything. I'm not kidding. Any communications or design elements that the doctors or patients see needs to be approved by committee. It takes forever for anything to get done. Pay is low. Benefits are outrageously expensive. The worst place I have ever worked.

Pros

Great co-workers and a company mission makes working at VSP worth it.

Cons

The compensation philosophy of the company is to pay less than the median salary compared to similar positions in similar organizations, without regard for the value the individual brings to the company, the esteem of peers or management. Other forms of compensation (such as healthcare) are over-valued in the internal self reporting (for the same coverage an individual could purchase for less than the company says it is worth). There is also a an extreme divergence in the workforce: most employees have been with the organization for less than five years, or more than 20. This "old guard" has little regard for those with less seniority, and resists changes, even when required.
