Pros

Not much these days - the company is circling the drain after 10+ people leaving in the past year and laying off 20+ staff The people that are left are all dedicated to the mission and are hard working (to a fault sometimes) and collaborative as possible

Cons

Engineering and CEO leadership is abysmal. Rather than taking responsibility they deflect onto the employees saying they arent doing enough or being proactive enough. The number of directions this company takes trying to satisfy every large company is their downfall. They are constantly chasing the next contract with no dedication towards implementating a stable and accurate platform.

Pros

I believe the CEO of the company has positive intentions to impact healthcare. Many engineers on my team were some of the best co-workers I’ve ever had the pleasure working with.

Cons

The experience here depends on which team you are on. Some teams do not have critical path work, have a decent work life balance, and an overall positive experience working here. On the other hand, there are teams that are consistently being crushed with urgent, poorly defined critical path work resulting a miserable experience and burnout. There are frequent strategy pivots which feels like the company is having difficulty getting the expected traction from the current product and is throwing things at the wall in hope that something eventually sticks before running out of funding. Overall career growth and opportunities to move within the organization are limited. Recently promotions seem to happen only when a number of people leave in order to retain existing employees or to prevent someone with an offer from leaving. The overall compensation is below average given the seniority level and expectations placed on engineers, especially compared to other companies in the same space and size. There is low priority given to code quality and engineering practices, and little opportunity to improve processes as speed is always prioritized over quality. This negatively impacts product development with a tremendous amount of technical debt.

Pros

- Woman-owned and led - Safe and supportive engineering team - Kind leadership - No-blame culture - I don't dread going to work - Best manager I've ever had - Provided awesome technical gear to do my job well

Cons

**Note: I, personally, have worked for 6 different startups in the last 10-years and, in my PERSONAL opinion, this is probably the least toxic environment I've ever worked in. I'm not some disconnected leader or "above anyone", and I have no incentive to posting a false review (I've left my share of negative reviews on past companies, even while actively employed), so this is a genuine and honest review from my perspective. I wholeheartedly feel that the prevalence of poor reviews is an inaccurate depiction of what it's like to work for b.well. Is it perfect? No. But I feel like the people leaving these 1-star reviews have had specific experiences that they're broadcasting as being a general experience for all engineers. The subjective negativity in those reviews are genuinely not at all what my personal experience has been. - Sometimes it can feel like the people are too sensitive and can't handle direct feedback or reasonable conflict (as in, normal disagreements on strategy or methodology, for instance). Just because someone disagrees and tells you that they disagree with your idea, or a misstep/blunder gets called out, doesn't mean that someone is being "mean" or "disrespectful". If someone is being an outright jerk, sure, go tell their manager. - Leadership is still maturing - Shifts in direction/focus can come quickly - Lack of opportunity in-person retreats - Engineering culture seems to lack "go getter" attitude - TPMs lack autonomy and don't seem to be afforded agency to lead their teams/projects without heavy involvement from senior leadership.
